AABA members and friends: given recent events, we wanted to let you know what Asian American Bar Association of Greater Chicago (AABA Chicago) is working on and we want to provide a space for discussion. To that end, we invite you to attend an open forum that we will hold by Zoom on Friday, March 28 at 4 pm and on Sunday, March 30 at 1 pm. Learn about the historical foundations of birthright citizenship in the United States in the 14th Amendment and the 1898 case US?v. On February 19, 2025,?AABA?and SABA co-hosted an event titled "Legal Lessons: What I Wish I Knew During My First 10 Years of Practice."?This candid and insightful Q&A session provided law students and young lawyers with valuable perspectives from seasoned legal professionals, aiming to equip attendees with knowledge and strategies to navigate the early years of their legal careers.?AABA?Board Member?Tae Kim?was one of the panel speakers.

On Feb. 12, AABA officer Joseph Sung moderated a conversation with California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu and Ajay Mehrotra, Professor at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, who discussed their research?in connection with?“A Portrait?of Asian Americans in the Law 2.0: Identity and Actions in Challenging Times.”? Portrait Project 2.0 is an update to?a?study that canvasses Asian American attorneys for insights into law school enrollment, career advancement, and political participation. The event drew a diverse crowd of law students, judges, as well as attorneys from different practice areas and sectors. Through events and programming, AABA will continue to offer its members and the legal community a welcoming space for dialogue about diversity, inclusion, and success in the legal profession.? ? Congratulations to AABA Chicago Honorary Board Member Sonni Williams on her swearing-in today at the Will County Courthouse by Illinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Kay O'Brien! Hon. Sonni Choi Williams was appointed as a Circuit Judge in the Twelfth Judicial Circuit, Third Subcircuit to fill the vacancy created by the election of Judge John C. Anderson to the Third District Appellate Court. Hon. Williams' appointment is a testament to her exceptional leadership, outstanding contributions to the legal community, and continued dedication to public service and the fair and equitable administration of justice.
