"Ersela Kripa: Architectural Agency"
?
Kripa's book FRONTS: Military Urbanisms and the Developing World (AR+D, 2020), co-authored with Stephen Mueller, compiles origi-nal urban research and analysis, revealing a growing geography of code-pendence between the global security complex and the urban morphologies of the developing world which it increasingly incriminates.
Ersela Kripa is an Associate Professor, and Associate Vice Provost at Texas Tech University, where she is also the Di-rector the Huckabee College of Archi-tecture - El Paso, and Director of Proj-ects at the research center POST (Proj-ect for Operative Spatial Technologies). Ersela is a registered architect and founding partner of AGENCY. Her awards include the Rome Prize in Archi-tecture, the Architecture Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Emerging Voices award from The Ar-chitectural League of New York, the New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship, and MacDowell, among others. Ersela holds a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University GSAPP Born and raised under communist dictatorship in Albania, Erse-la's work is particularly focused on un-covering the machinations of the securo-cratic regimes that surveil and control?public lives.?
Her practice, AGENCY, co-directed with Stephen Mueller, is an architecture and design research practice leveraging spatial design and information to coun-teract nascent forms of global and urban inequality. Located on the US/-Mexico border, their work engages emerging publics in protracted, conflict-ual contexts by consistently shifting the narrative, developing methods to identi-fy, appropriate, and subvert subpercep-tual urban and atmospheric phenomena that violate human rights.
