How does AI redefine what it means to be creative in a digital age? What do AI technologies reveal about the uniquely human aspects of storytelling, performance, and the creative process itself? How can AI help us tell more compelling stories? What safeguards need to be in place so that working artists in the creative economy can continue to work productively? How can we teach skills for using generative AI in creative practice workflows in ethical and empowering ways?? Learn more & register here: https://lnkd.in/g_yuv6nu

a2ru a partnership of nearly 50 institutions committed to transforming research universities in order to ensure the greatest possible institutional support for interdisciplinary research, curricula, programs and creative practice between the arts and other disciplines. The world’s most pressing, complex and open-ended challenges resist singular approaches and resolutions; whether global or local, they will continue to spring from both likely and unlikely sources. With unparalleled scholarly range and depth, the contemporary research university has the distinct capacity to equip faculty and students to confront such challenges with expertise and creative confidence. High quality scholarly and creative production is most attainable when students and faculty are free to experiment within and across their disciplinary boundaries. Research universities that support such exploration through mutually beneficial interdisciplinary approaches spur creative resolutions and meaningful innovations.

Daksh Kapoor from Emerging Creatives host Georgia Institute of Technology reflects on his Summit experience and his final collaborative project
Last week I had the privilege to participate in the a2ru Emerging Creative Student Summit 2025. It was an honor to represent Georgia Institute of Technology and connect with students from diverse disciplines. A huge thanks to Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities a2ru for bringing this summit together and promoting all creative backgrounds! A little bit about what we made: Our project was titled “US” and I don’t think our idea could have been put better than how Gauri Menon and Yariane Soto did it: “We wanted to create an interactive display that brings our collective identities together — visually, digitally, and physically. Something that truly embodies the voices, experiences, and identities of everyone here.” Our project combined inputs from all members present at the summit, using words and images that each person felt best represented their unique identity. The final visualization was a blend of digital projection mapping and physical elements like fabric and paper cutting, encouraging fellow summit members to “leave a piece of themselves in, something to look back at.” A core part of our idea was embracing the meaning of shared experience. As a result, much of our project relied on the involvement of the entire summit community. From the words to the images to the fabric, every contribution shaped the final piece. Watching US take form through everyone’s collaboration was awe-inspiring. For us, the project became a living representation of identity — one that breathes and resonates with those present. I wish to give a special shoutout to my team as well. They truly made the time fly by — I didn’t even realize when we started as a team, and now it’s already over. They are a testament to the fact that creativity comes in all shapes, forms, and sizes. Me with my dino camera (thanks, Thais Alvarenga Medina), Jason Salazar Tobar with his hacky sack, Venus Bayat with her camera, Gauri Menon with her headphones, and Yariane Soto with her (definitely hers lol) laptop. As a whole, I think we complemented each other so well — I couldn’t have asked for a better group. I had an amazing time with you all and would love the chance to collaborate again in the future! #a2ru #tech #art #technology #resonate #makingwaves

Another wonderful Emerging Creatives testimonial--this one from Jacob Nicholson of Kent State University.
I had the privilege of meeting and collaborating with so many amazing, interdisciplinary, and creative people at the Emerging Creatives Student Summit this past weekend in Atlanta! Meeting at Georgia Tech's impressive CODA building, my team of two architects, a historian, a scenic designer, a music engineer, and myself, assembled around the theme of "Resonance." Specifically, we explored how ideas resonate throughout time in the areas we choose to inhabit. We combined our different perspectives and disciplines to create the foundations of an interactive and immersive exhibition exploring the past, present, and possible future of a building in Atlanta with a complicated history. Our project included a hand-painted model, an immersive soundscape created from recordings of the area around us, and a series of interactions designed to connect viewers to the art. We had to be resourceful and collaborate efficiently to complete everything on time. A huge thank you to Kent State Design Innovation for preparing me and giving me this incredible opportunity, and to a2ru and Georgia Institute of Technology for putting it all together. #DesignThinking #CreativeCollaboration #KentState #a2ru #EmergingCreatives

The student participants at each year’s Emerging Creatives never fail to inspire! Thank you for sharing this wonderful testimonial Aarya More ! Arts at Tech
I am happy to share that my submission was selected for the a2ru emerging Creative Student Summit a four-day immersive experience bringing together brilliant minds from diverse creative fields! Representing Georgia Tech at this interdisciplinary conference was an absolute honor. Our team was a unique blend of architecture, product design, graphic design, musical engineering, and historic preservation. The exchange of ideas, problem-solving approaches, and creative energy made this an unforgettable experience. From engaging discussions to hands-on collaborations, I walked away with new perspectives, lasting connections, and invaluable learning. For our group project, we explored the theme "Past, Present, and Future." We chose to interpret it through the lens of the Kendeda Building, an icon of sustainable design. Poetic takeaway: Time moves in layers what we build, what we preserve, what we leave behind. The Kendeda Building stands as a testament to this cycle, embodying the past, present, and the uncertain future. As you walk through time, each era unfolds through sound, sight, and reflection. The past hums with the echoes of industry, the present vibrates with human presence, and the future remains undefined only nature holds space. A mirror stands at the threshold, asking: what will we see next? What will we create? a2ru and Georgia Institute of Technology Thank you for this incredible opportunity! #creative #architecture #emerging #studentsummit #design #a2ru Image 5- THREADS of CHANGE: Design & Data MODA EXHIBIT

A2RU STATEMENT ON EXECUTIVE ORDERS AND THE EFFECT ON HIGHER EDUCATION From our Executive Committee: "Dear a2ru Members, Partners, and Friends, 'I see little of more importance to the future of our country and our civilization than full recognition of the place of the artist.' —John Fitzgerald Kennedy (inscribed on the Kennedy Center) At a2ru, we reaffirm our commitment to the essential role of the arts in shaping knowledge, driving discovery, and confronting the grand challenges of our time. Across the country, on university campuses and in communities, artists and researchers are leading bold, interdisciplinary innovations—pushing creative research beyond traditional boundaries and ensuring the arts remain central to human progress. As a national network, we recognize that these efforts are happening within a rapidly shifting landscape. Changes in funding structures, research priorities, and institutional policies have created new challenges for many in our fields. At a2ru, we champion the arts as essential to higher education; deep disciplinary knowledge and applied research in the arts; interdisciplinary creativity; durable collaboration; diverse community; and the research university as a driver toward a better world. At a2ru, the arts are not supplemental—they are foundational to education. As such, we are steadfast in our commitment to build, advocate for, and expand pathways for art-integrated research and creative practice to thrive. As we do this, we recognize the difficulties faced by artists and researchers whose work is challenged by abrupt shifts in funding and infrastructure. Changing our programming and the complex ways we practice and teach or ignoring inclusivity is not possible; these actions would be inimical to the nature of the arts disciplines and to interdisciplinarity."
