A Tiny Home for Good is a small non-profit organization with a mighty mission; to end homelessness in Syracuse, NY. After working at a homeless shelter and seeing the same people cycle through a system of horrendous temporary housing options only to end up back in the shelter, founder and executive director Andrew Lunetta knew there had to be a better way. Founded with a basic belief in humanity and the power of a home base, A Tiny Home for Good builds safe, affordable, dignified housing on vacant lots in the city. Each home is then rented to an individual facing homelessness. But, it doesn’t stop there. With each new house we build and every new resident we’re able to welcome home, we realize that having a home base is only the beginning. Through partnerships with local organizations, residents are connected with professional care managers to provide additional support. Our greatest hope is for our residents’ success and well-being. We believe that providing affordable and dignified homes is a strong first step to a better life.

For the month of October, after our typical Tuesday walk, our tenant services team is hosting a bonus creative activity at our office. This week was a paint and sip. Lori made fruit smoothies while Lydia organized a painting activity. Looks like we have some budding artists at A Tiny Home for Good!
Maybe a sign of a great event is not having any photos to share because everyone was having too good of a time to remember to document it?! We are so grateful for the tremendous turnout and the incredible compassion and generosity of this community. We don't often lose sight of how special and important our work is, but last night gave us such an enormous boost. While what we do is rewarding, it's also really hard. Knowing we have the love and support and belief of this incredible community behind us...well, there's nothing we can't do. So, thank you, thank you. Thank you for being a part of our work. Thank you for taking the time to come hang out, and for supporting us in so many different ways. Last week we had a great turnout for our tenant field trip to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo! Fan favorites included seeing all of the elephants (including the twins!) out enjoying the sun together, making significant eye contact with the patas monkeys, and feeding the ducks.

Welcome to Green Street Court, a little known dead end off of Green Street in the Hawley Green neighborhood. A Tiny Home for Good acquired this vacant lot, along with the two Green Street fronting homes a few years ago. The houses were rehabilitated and house some of our tenants. The original intention had been to redevelop this lot behind the homes to build additional housing, but getting sewage and utilities hooked up proved to be cost prohibitive. Vacant lots tend to attract trash and debris, and get overgrown and difficult to maintain. With the financial and volunteer support from Baxter International Inc., we were able to make headways on turning this backyard space into a gathering area, with plans for a community garden in the spring.
Did somebody say pizza? And not just any pizza. Toss & Fire Wood-Fired Pizza. Cheese, pepperoni. Sure. Given. But what about the bacon and potatoey goodness of the 'Cuse Salt Potato? Or, if meat isn't your bag, you can celebrate your virtue with Tessa's Veggie. We're not sure who Tessa is, but--tomato, broccoli, garlic, and cheese?--she has great taste. Sausage and shroom? Classic. Never disappoints. And Chicken, Bacon, Ranch because you can't have too much bacon and it just sounds good when you say it out loud. Alright, it's almost lunchtime and we're officially starving. There's nothing we can do about that right now, but make future you happy and get some tickets to our benefit on Thursday, October 3rd at Harvey's Garden.
