Ed’s journey from Greenville, Ohio, to the big leagues is a powerful story of determination. He carved out an MLB career, proving that hard work and mental strength can overcome any odds. These same principles drive Ed’s passion for mental health and wellness, and his commitment to advancing the concentration skills and confidence of the next generation. Outside of his work as a real estate agent with Atlanta Braves , Ed dedicates his time to speaking with youth about mental health, mentoring through pitching lessons, and building a foundation for leadership and personal growth. His contributions to AREACH are invaluable, helping us foster resilience, focus, and emotional well-being in young minds. Meet the Founder: Catedra Phillips Catedra Phillips, the visionary behind AREACH (Advancing, Resourcing, Educating, Advocating for Cognitive Health), launched the organization in 2012 with a mission to inspire positive citizenship in youth through volunteerism. However, as she worked closely with young people, she recognized the overwhelming need for mental health support and shifted the organization’s focus to address this critical issue. Today, AREACH stands as a transformative force in youth mental health, empowering young minds with innovative programs that blend neuroscience, mental health strategies, and technology. Under Catedra’s leadership, the organization provides cutting-edge tools like virtual reality therapy, neurofeedback, and brain-controlled robots to help youth build emotional regulation, focus, and resilience. Catedra’s goal is clear: to break the stigma surrounding mental health and equip young people with the skills they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Her passion and dedication continue to inspire hundreds of youth, educators, and community leaders, making a profound impact in underserved communities. Rewind to yesterday when AREACH partnered with the City of Atlanta to deliver a powerful program focused on entrepreneurial mindset and mental health! Our amazing Board Member, Antonia White, invited some incredible entrepreneurs for a panel discussion that sparked inspiration and dreams in our youth. As a special touch, Antonia gifted tablets to selected youth members, making the day even more memorable. This new program approach will equip young people with entrepreneurship skills while helping them overcome and reduce financial traumas. Exciting news! AREACH is now partnering with Towers High School in DeKalb to help students strengthen their emotional and academic skills. In our recent session, we focused on building trust and connection among students, and we saw incredible outcomes—students feeling more confident, engaged, and supported. The science behind it? Oxytocin, the “bonding hormone,” was activated during our group activities, fostering positive relationships and a sense of belonging. We’re proud to be part of their growth journey!
