Today, on National Equal Pay Day, A New Leaf stands united with women across the nation in the fight for wage equality. The gender pay gap remains a significant barrier to financial independence and stability, especially for women of color, who face the steepest disparities. Equal pay is about more than fairness—it's about providing opportunities, reducing poverty, and ensuring housing stability for families. At A New Leaf, we are committed to supporting women in overcoming these challenges through access to stable employment, financial empowerment, and comprehensive resources. Our mission is to break down systemic barriers and create a community where women can thrive, build secure futures, and achieve the equality they deserve. Today, we reaffirm our dedication to this cause and call on our community to join us in advocating for change. Let’s work together to make equal pay a reality for everyone. #NationalEqualPayDay #EqualPayForAll #ANewLeaf

For many young people, earning a driver’s license is a vital step toward self-sufficiency. However, for those transitioning out of foster care, accessing driver education and practice opportunities can be a significant barrier. Arizona’s Youth Driver Education Program is addressing this challenge, helping over 200 young adults successfully obtain their licenses. By providing instructional drives, transition planning, and financial guidance, this initiative ensures that foster youth have the same opportunities as their peers. A New Leaf believes that stability and independence are essential to a successful future. Programs like this help equip young people with the skills and resources needed to thrive, supporting their transition into adulthood with confidence. https://lnkd.in/g2ZgqWFt

Heather fell into addiction at only 13 and was never able to recover. Dependent on methamphetamine, she dropped out of school and lived on the streets for several years. Without anyone to help her, she felt like she deserved the pain she felt. “The entire world shames you for your addiction and looks at you like you're choosing to ruin your life. As a result, your whole life eventually revolves around that drug, and then that’s all you have. But the truth is, addiction isn’t a choice, it's a trap we fall into and can't escape.” Heather went to prison three times in her 20’s and struggled to start over. When she left prison the first two times, she was dropped on the street with a bus pass and nothing else to her name. Without a future or anywhere to go, she fell into her addiction to cope. “It was the third time I got out of prison that things changed for me. I got my GED in prison and found A New Leaf’s program before I got out. They were gonna help me with housing and finding work. Being released and knowing I had a bed to sleep in that night felt like a miracle.” Heather stayed sober, got a sponsor, and eventually found work at a drug addiction treatment program. She’s had her job for over a year now and helps people facing challenges similar to hers. “It’s easy to lock us up and pretend we don’t deserve a future. But I’ll tell you this - it’s a lot more expensive, painful, and destructive to do that. The better way to address addiction is to show compassion and help people. It costs a lot less money too.” Heather plans to continue in her career and grow as a person. Finally free of addiction, prison, and many of the challenges she has faced, she sees a bright future on the horizon. “A New Leaf got me started on this journey and kept me steady, now I plan to make the most of it. It hasn't been easy to get here, but the kindness and compassion I got from A New Leaf made it possible. I’m proof that these programs work.”
