Just wrapped up an incredible #PhotonicsWest —and what a show it was! Packed halls, buzzing conversations, and a real sense of momentum in the photonics industry. For A. M. You’ve got a great idea for a MEMS product – but could it succeed? You've reached Stage One of A. M. Fitzgerald & Associates, LLC's Five Stages of Product Development:?Proof-of-Concept Prototype. Here's where you convince an investor or executive that your novel product idea is worthy of further investment. In this development stage, you'll need to produce a handful of proof-of-concept prototypes quickly, cheaply, with easily accessed resources – and perhaps a few shortcuts as well. Establish efficiency by employing short cycles of learning to explore your technology’s product potential. As you'll still have room for experimentation at this stage, leverage R&D labs or a multi-project wafer run with a design kit to help you reach this milestone. But be careful about jumping into full foundry production with only the first few working prototypes. Your working prototype will give you a better understanding of your technology, so you can shift your attention to getting the resources needed to further develop your advanced prototypes – which is Stage Two in AMFitzgerald's Five Stages of Production.
