What do you think?
The Illuminating Engineering Society recently published an editorial in LD&A magazine discussing Type B TLEDs, highlighting studies that revealed high levels of flicker in many LED tube products, even those marketed as 'flicker-free.' One study tested products from 26 different manufacturers, finding that 22 of them exhibited flicker equal to or worse than magnetically ballasted T12s. When I started working in the lighting industry 10 years ago, it was widely understood that fluorescent lighting—especially old T12 lamps—was less than ideal for work or study environments. There was genuine excitement about the promise of LED lamps, not just for energy savings but for their potential to deliver higher-quality light. So, for those of you in the lighting and electrical world: Do the energy savings and low up-front costs of LED tubes outweigh the need for high-quality lighting in classrooms and offices? Do you ever recommend LED tubes to your customers? Why or why not? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
