"Slack time." Do those two words make you uncomfortable? Do they bring up a feeling that maybe you’re not doing enough or being productive enough? It doesn’t have to be that way. We all need time to unwind, rest, and sometimes simply do nothing. Here's what Renée Smith had to say about it in an episode of To Work:With Love by Gut+Science podcast. What is that one thing that grounds you and reminds you of who you are? That's exactly what Renée Smith talks about in this newsletter. "We could spend a lot of time exploring why the one practice that feeds us can be the first thing to slip through the cracks. Instead, today let's not focus on that. Let's not even focus on creating a new habit. ? Today, let's just simply do our one thing."

Whenever we talk about bringing more love into the workplace, “accountability” always comes up as an important concern. We’ve all worked with people who underperform. It’s frustrating when no one “holds them accountable.” It leaves the rest of us to pick up the pieces. But here’s the thing: love isn’t the issue. The real problem? A lack of commitment. When commitment is weak, we avoid tough conversations. We sidestep decisions that impact performance. Strong commitment, paired with love, changes that. It builds a culture where we’re all in—together. That’s real accountability. #ahumanworkplace #accountability #responsibility #workplaceculture #workplaces #organizationalculture #organizationaldevelopment

Take a moment, right now, to slow down from the rush of productivity and performance. Just ten minutes. Let’s step back from the frenzy to read a portion of John Donne’s writing together. ? Don’t worry, it won’t take long. ? Like any masterpiece, Donne’s words will linger with us, returning with fresh questions and insights if we give them a little time to settle. ? As you read, reflect on his words through the lens of the workplace. \ What might they reveal about fear, isolation, and the absence of love in the environments where we spend so much of our time? ? Excerpt from Meditation #17 by John Donne, from Devotions upon Emergent Occasions (1623) ? ~~~~~ No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. ~~~~~ ? In a world driven by individualism and competition, in a culture where isolation and loneliness seem so common, Donne reminds us that we are not alone. We are interdependent, deeply connected to one another, part of something much larger than ourselves. ? Your loss is my loss. Your fear is my fear. By extension, your success and your joy strengthen me. We matter to one another. ? When we create a workplace centered on love and humanity, we honor these deep connections. It begins by listening to Donne’s words, hearing the bells that toll, acknowledging our interdependence, and choosing to be “involved in mankind.”

Love in leadership sees challenges as opportunities for growth and conflicts as chances for deeper understanding. Similarly, appreciating the efforts and resilience of our colleagues transforms difficult situations into moments of love and learning. Try to approach every situation with a heart full of gratitude, allowing love to guide us through challenges and conflicts, turning them into opportunities for connection and growth! #gratitude #morelovelessfear #makeworkmorehuman #lovingleadership
