With mental health the largest unmet need of the nearly 600,000 children and youth in foster care in our country, A Home Within accomplishes something that cannot be replicated in the medical field. While time and financial constraints typically prevent therapists from providing free, open-ended therapy, our volunteers—representing the best in human kindness—have each stepped forward to commit to supporting a young person’s healing with no predetermined end date in sight. As we recognize World Mental Health Day in and uplift its 204 theme ‘It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,’ we proudly recognize our corps of volunteer therapists who are helping young people in foster care heal from trauma, and empowering them to thrive in the workplace, in their personal lives and in their communities. I'm excited to share that I’ve recently joined the board of A Home Within, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing ??pro bono, long-term mental health therapy?? to individuals who have aged out of foster care. These young adults often face the challenges of transitioning to independence without the support system many of us take for granted. AHW connects them with dedicated therapists who commit to providing consistent, one-on-one therapy for as long as needed. This relationship helps bridge the gap, offering the stability and emotional support necessary to thrive. This cause is deeply meaningful to me.
