Portland General Electric (PGE) has submitted a proposal to the Oregon Public Utilities Commission, requesting a 10.9% increase in electricity rates for 2025. This marks the third consecutive year PGE has sought to raise customer rates. Rooftop solar is now the cheapest form of energy. According to solar industry research data from SEIA, the cost of installing solar panels has dropped by more than 40% over the last decade. In Oregon, prices have fallen by 43%. Consider hedging against these ever-increasing utility rates with solar for your home.

Washington state leaders shared a new website that corrals the federal and state grants, tax incentives and rebates available to help businesses, individuals, tribal groups, nonprofits and government agencies seeking support in implementing and developing climate-friendly technologies. The FundHubWA site pulls together the opportunities available through three federal laws — the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law — as well as Washington’s Climate Commitment Act. A throwback to one of A&R Solar largest commercial solar installations on the Bonney Reservoir in Buckley Washington!? ? Working with the city or Buckley and A&R Solar, Puget Sound Energy designed and launched the community solar project that features 1,368 solar panels providing 615 kilowatts of AC power to the local community.? ? According to Aurora Solar's “Solar Industry Snapshot,” trust, or lack thereof, is a roadblock to residential solar adoption. In 2023, 22% of homeowners said they could not find a trustworthy solar company. In 2024, the numbers doubled: 44% of respondents said it is hard to determine which solar companies are trustworthy. Washington has recently passed the Washington Solar Consumer Protection Act to address these concerns. The Solar Consumer Protection Act introduces measures to curb predatory tactics, standardize contractual language, and reinforce installer licensing regulations, while also empowering the Attorney General’s office to penalize non-compliant solar companies. Residential taxpayers can apply a credit to their federal income tax return at the end of the year in which their system went into service based on its total price. The solar tax credit is not refundable, but can still be carried forward to future years if you can’t use the full amount in one year. After installing solar panels, claim the tax credit on the IRS filing corresponding to the year you installed your system. For example, a solar installation completed in June 2024 would generate a federal tax credit that the owner could claim in April 2025. https://lnkd.in/gKXkZCZk

This home electrification fair offered inspiration and practical tips for switching from gas or older electric to efficient, renewable electric. Attendees could talk with electrification experts, get personalized advice, and learn how to make an electrification plan, including installing solar panels on their homes.
