Following the Hawaii fireworks explosion on New Year's Eve, the 944th Fighter Wing, Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, played a key role in the medical emergency response. AZ Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Reserve(AZ ESGR) Employer Outreach Bill Adams presented a Patriot Award to Carl Speckels and @Shawna Killiard with the Phoenix Police Department Crime Laboratory with SSgt @Sara Weaver from the 944th Fighter Wing. Weaver shared during her presentation, “Carl supported my decision, over four years ago, to join the Air Force Reserve when I had already been an established employee with the laboratory. When I left for basic training in 2019, I was still in a training status. Still, Carl worked with me after I returned from training and active-duty orders to quickly get back into my specialized training and to gain back some of the skills I lost during my nearly 1.5 years away from my position. When I was called up for a short-order non-voluntary deployment in 2021 - 2022, Carl understood my duties and worked with me, getting settled back into my position at the lab when I returned from my deployment five months later. Carl has also supported the time off I have had to take from the lab for required and crucial training with my reserve unit. #AZESGR #PatriotAward
