826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in mind, we provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications. All of our free programs seek to strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.

    What an honor it was to work with the talented young people at Future Chefs! ?? #826Boston, in partnership with Toast, hosted a Resumé Workshop where students learned to craft the perfect resumé to stand out to future employers.?

    November 12 marked my three month anniversary at 826 Boston! These past months have been so incredibly rewarding and filled with so many wonderful days. Some highlights include helping out at our annual gala, Night of 1,000 Stories, welcoming Councilman Benjamin J. Weber to the Margarita Mu?iz Writers’ Room during Civic Leaders Tutoring Week, and facilitating a two-week long workshop that culminated in six students writing a short scary story to be published in our first in-house publication of the year (as well as formatting the book on InDesign and binding our copies)! None of these things even scratch the surface of my favorite part: tutoring and interacting with students! I am so excited to see what the rest of my year of service has to offer, and to see what more I can learn at 826 Boston

    ?? VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT ?? #826Boston is full of incredible volunteers, and today we’re highlighting Aidan Gravina (he/him)! Q: Tell us a little about it yourself! A: My name is Aidan Gravina, and I am a student at Boston College, double majoring in political science and communication, with a minor in Hispanic studies. I've been volunteering with 826 Boston for a little over a month and have deeply enjoyed the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of these students. Q: What is your favorite part about volunteering at 826 Boston? A: My favorite part of 826 Boston has been the relationships I’ve formed. Each time I walk into 826 Boston, it’s an opportunity to meet a new student, learn their story, and provide them with the support they need to meet their goals. Through this support, I’ve been able to share my love of learning with the students, and I hope that as the academic year progresses, I can help them find that love of learning within themselves. ?? Here’s what our team has to say about Aidan: “Aidan has worked so hard this month with all of our students! He’s drawn a few of our more introverted students out and connected with them on a real level. He’s also stayed late to help tutor students in Spanish who don’t have as much assistance at home with their homework. He’s spectacular, and all the students adore him, his humor, and his soccer knowledge.” Thank you, Aidan, for being a spectacular #826BostonVolunteer! ??     Thank you to Keith Magee for hosting a timely and inspiring author talk with 826 Boston last week for his latest book, Prophetic Justice. There was a youth-led discussion on the role of race?and religion?in influencing politics and reflections on the road ahead for creating true justice for our nation. Thank you, Keith and Joseph, for leading the conversation. After such a disappointing week, I remain inspired by all the brilliance around me and the determination of our youth to fight for a better tomorrow.?#Onward ?? ??
