Two screws running internally through the body of this desk lamp mount create a strong, stiff mount that doesn’t flex when tightened in place. The screws also reinforce the printed layers, preventing separation along the layer lines when the mount is tightened in place. When designing and 3D printing custom knobs like the one used here, I can take into account how much torque can be applied to the knob. The diameter of the knob used in this design lets the user apply enough torque to securely tighten the desk mount without applying so much torque that the mount is over-stressed. Testing out a polypropylene hinge concept. Polypropylene has good elasticity and flexibility making it resistant to cracking and stress. The multi-material design used here combines the flexibility of polypropylene, the strength of PETG, and the aesthetic of matte PLA. These concept hinges were designed for 6mm PVC panels, but they can be designed to accommodate other panel thicknesses. Size, shape, color, and finish are all easily customizable.
