At #COP29, 25 countries and the European Union committed to no new unabated coal power in their next round of national climate plans. Technologies capable of reducing the emissions and negative impacts of coal power while still bolstering economies and supply chains - like 8 Rivers’ own Allam-Fetvedt Cycle - will be critical as nations and regions move ahead with this commitment. Carbon capture and direct air capture technologies must be deployed at scale in the U.S. to achieve net zero emissions by mid-century. These platforms are poised to bring the biggest value within hard-to-abate industries, as our partners at the Carbon Capture Coalition recently pointed out: “Carbon management technologies are not optional for decarbonizing the industrial sector.” Delivering viable, affordable carbon management solutions to the industries that need them most will require continued innovation and investment support. In the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s latest 2024 Global Hydrogen Review, researchers highlighted the 8 Rivers-led Cormorant Clean Energy project in Port Arthur, Texas as an innovative energy project that will advance global net zero goals. Powered by our 8RH2 ultra-low-carbon hydrogen production technology and an ammonia loop, Cormorant is set to produce 880,000 metric tons of ultra-low-carbon ammonia to help decarbonize heavy industries across the globe. At #COP29 in Azerbaijan last week, a coalition of hydrogen industry groups proposed several measures to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen to support the energy transition in the coming years, including: ??Setting clear incentives and targets to deploy hydrogen in key sectors like transportation, power, and more.? ?Speeding up permitting processes for hydrogen projects? ??Encouraging public-private partnerships and blended finance strategies to derisk projects and technologies 8 Rivers’ 8RH2 hydrogen production platform represents an affordable, scalable path to delivering ultra-low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia to the markets and geographies that need it most. As we commercialize 8RH2 this decade, we look forward to working with developers, investors, and partners to strengthen not only our technologies but the entire global hydrogen ecosystem.?
