Army building a new expeditionary cyber battalion November 26, 2024, DefenseScoop https://lnkd.in/eh8yhC3p In late February, the Army Force Structure Transformation (ARSTRUC) plan directed the activation of two more so-called expeditionary cyber and electromagnetic activities teams (ETCs) in the 11th Cyber Battalion — a total of 90 authorizations — rounding out that battalion and an additional 390 authorizations for ECTs to begin building the 12th Cyber Battalion, Lt. Gen. Maria Barrett, commander of Army Cyber Command, said in an interview with DefenseScoop.? “We’re doubling down on what the expeditionary [Cyberspace and Electromagnetic Activities] teams have been doing to date. I think that is a good sign,” Barrett said. The battalion provides tactical, on-the-ground cyber operations (mostly through radio-frequency effects), electronic warfare and information operations. The unit consists of four companies with over 300 personnel total and five ECTs — scalable formations designed to augment units upon request.

Turkey Bowl 2024 FORT EISENHOWER, Ga. –Thanksgiving is Thursday and the beginning of the 2024 Holiday Season. A time for Family, friends, food and football, and today was the Eisenhower Turkey Bowl! The Cyber Legion Soldiers of the 782nd Military Intelligence Battalion versus the Leviathans of the 11th Cyber Battalion (there was even Frisbee Football). The 782d’s Battalion Commander got into the spirit by donning his gigantic hat, shield, and cape with the new Cyber Legion logo... Alas, unfortunately, I don’t know who the victors were.

US Cyber Force Surges Global Operations Amid Rising Threats November 22, 2024, Bank Info Security https://lnkd.in/eu3beTvr The Cyber National Mission Force has been deployed more than 85 times over the last year and carried out missions spanning across at least 80 networks, said Morgan Adamski, executive director of the U.S. Cyber Command. Adamski said the force has significantly evolved since its 2014 launch to combat hacking and protect domestic critical infrastructure, a mission that is increasingly urgent as attacks on Department of Defense networks escalated in the years that followed. Adamski said Cyber Command and federal cyber authorities have "executed globally synchronized activities" throughout the year that are "laser-focused on degrading and disrupting PRC cyber operations worldwide."

Hackathon IV – A cyber and computer challenge event for young people Full story: https://lnkd.in/gFigyWnh ODENTON, Md. – Soldiers and Civilians from the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade (Cyber), Praetorians, hosted the Hackathon IV event in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Public Library to encourage teen interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) at the Odenton Regional Library, November 19. Although a relatively small event – the library caps registration at 25 – the Praetorian volunteers have never turned away a walk-in, and the young people benefit from a more personalized training and educational event since there are always more than 10 volunteers. “Running the 2024 Hackathon outreach event has been extremely satisfying work,” said 2nd Lt. Nathan Vowinkel, a 17A cyberspace operations officer and lead planner for Hackathon IV. “I have loved the opportunity to interact with the local Fort Meade community -- from the helpful Anne Arundel County Public Library staff to the eager participating students at our events.
