We want to make it very clear where our organization stands on the issue of content, data and language ownership. Indigenous individuals and communities that we work with have the explicit, intrinsic and legal right to any and all language materials that are shared with us. 7000 Languages is committed to this statement and the protection of Indigenous rights and sovereignty in all its forms. If you are Indigenous and would like to know more about how to safely and securely protect and revitalize your language, please reach out to us. We also highly recommend the United States Indigenous Data Sovereignty Network as a reliable and respectable resource. https://lnkd.in/gzje8GcD

We are back with another #FellowshipFriday, announcing the launch of the #hupa language course. Na:tinixwe Mixine:whe (Hupa Language) is spoken by the Na:tinixwe people from the Hoopa Valley in Northern California. This course was created by our 2024 Language Revitalization Fellow Carina Peterson and Xinewh-ding Inc. "Inspired by the Fluency Transfer System books modeled by Salish School of Spokane. Our focus has been striving for fluency within our community with the use of recordings from our first-speaker elders. In order to obtain these recordings, we have worked with Verdena Parker and are actively reaching out to families within the community for permissions to use their family members’ recordings of elders past and present. Ts’ehdiyah to the speakers and their families, and all others who have helped, and continue to help, with the development of this course!" ? We are excited to continue our #FellowshipFriday with the launch of the #LencaPutum language course for Spanish speakers. Lenca Putum is an Indigenous language from El Salvador. This course was created by our 2024 Fellow Andy Amaya. It's #FellowshipFriday, and we're excited to announce the launch of the #Gagauz language course for Ukranian speakers. This course was created by our 2024 Fellow Karyna Keliohlo. Early access is now available to our supporters via Patreon or by donating to our Fellowship Fundraiser! ? The Gagauz language belongs to the Oguz subgroup of Turkic languages and is the native language of the Gagauz, a Turkic-speaking people who live mainly in the south of Moldova and Ukraine. Although it is one of the oldest Turkic languages, it is gradually disappearing, which is a cause of serious concern. This alarming trend indicates the urgent need to preserve the language as an integral part of cultural heritage. Karyna Keliohlo spent her summer traveling from Turkey to Ukraine to create this course with the help of her family, and shared, "Learning the Gagauz language is an investment in the future of the Gagauz community. This course will not only help preserve the language, but also enrich the cultural mosaic of Ukraine and the world."
