We want to make it very clear where our organization stands on the issue of content, data and language ownership. Indigenous individuals and communities that we work with have the explicit, intrinsic and legal right to any and all language materials that are shared with us. 7000 Languages is committed to this statement and the protection of Indigenous rights and sovereignty in all its forms. If you are Indigenous and would like to know more about how to safely and securely protect and revitalize your language, please reach out to us. We also highly recommend the United States Indigenous Data Sovereignty Network as a reliable and respectable resource. https://lnkd.in/gzje8GcD

Excited for another #FellowshipFriday, announcing the launch of the #Chinuk Wawa language course. Chinuk Wawa is the heritage language of the Chinook Indian Nation. It is a hybrid lingua franca indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. This course was created by our 2024 Language Revitalization Fellow, Brandi Ramus. Chinuk Wawa consists of several languages, but is mostly simplified Chinookan, some Nuuchahnulth, English and Canadian French. The language originated from the Chinook peo-ples on the lower Columbia River, where it once was the most common form of intertribal and interethnic communication. Chinuk Wawa was spoken in all areas west of the Rockies from Northern California to Alaska. With this introductory Chinuk Wawa course you will be able to introduce yourself and your family members in Chinuk Wawa. ? We are back with another #FellowshipFriday, announcing the launch of the #hupa language course. Na:tinixwe Mixine:whe (Hupa Language) is spoken by the Na:tinixwe people from the Hoopa Valley in Northern California. This course was created by our 2024 Language Revitalization Fellow Carina Peterson and Xinewh-ding Inc. "Inspired by the Fluency Transfer System books modeled by Salish School of Spokane. Our focus has been striving for fluency within our community with the use of recordings from our first-speaker elders. In order to obtain these recordings, we have worked with Verdena Parker and are actively reaching out to families within the community for permissions to use their family members’ recordings of elders past and present. Ts’ehdiyah to the speakers and their families, and all others who have helped, and continue to help, with the development of this course!" ? We are excited to continue our #FellowshipFriday with the launch of the #LencaPutum language course for Spanish speakers. Lenca Putum is an Indigenous language from El Salvador. This course was created by our 2024 Fellow Andy Amaya. It's #FellowshipFriday, and we're excited to announce the launch of the #Hira?aca language course. This course was created by our 2024 Fellow Lisa Casarez. ? Early access is now available to our supporters via Patreon or by donating to our Fellowship Fundraiser! ? ? Hiráaca or Hidatsa ( Hiráaca nooga ire’e) is a Siouan language spoken by the Hiraaca people of the Northern Plains. It is one of three languages belonging to the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Mandan Hidatsa and Arikara (MHA) Nation. Although operating as a single political entity, Hiráaca has its own distinct language, culture & customs. Intertribal unions and cultural borrowing between the three tribes is also acknowledged. Our homelands encompass the Northern Plains and other parts of the United States, but in recent times our tribe has settled along the Knife and Missouri Rivers in what is now North Dakota. This Hiráaca language course was organized by Lisa Casarez and with the help of Amber Gwin, Delvin Driver Jr., Lyle Gwin Jr., Jayli Fimbres, Bheri Hallam, and Deann Birdsbill. This course is dedicated to our ancestors, the ones who have come before, our elders who help guide and support this work, the language workers working to reclaim and revive our language, to the community, this language is yours and it should always be here for you. To the generation of Hiráaca to come, we hope you find identity, connection and pride in what we are able to pass down to you. Nii eeca madanuxbaaga’o. ?
