Country lead Uganda Early Action review#7-1-7, MPH, FETP

Privileged to share insights at the GLN Webinar alongside Senior Advisor Marine Buissonniere, hosted by the Resolve To Save Lives 7-1-7 Alliance. The focus was on leadership within public health initiatives. In Uganda, the 7-1-7 implementation has thrived with robust leadership support, adoption, and scaling-up efforts. The Uganda Ministry of Health's pivotal role has catalyzed progress, further bolstered by the African region's Ministry of Health Committee's adoption of the 7-1-7 framework in the Regional Strategy for Health Security 2022-2030. The World Health Organization Geneva also released Early Action Review guidance aligned with 7-1-7 targets in August 2023. Key takeaways from the Webinar: From Marine Buissonniere: - Enhance leader selection processes - Strengthen leadership capacity support - Foster peer learning opportunities From Lydia Nakiire: - Establish a dedicated champion and team for 7-1-7 implementation - Garner high-level leadership backing - Foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders during annual planning sessions - Align 7-1-7 reporting with the government's planning cycle Appreciations to the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), 7-1-7 Alliance, Ministry of Health - Uganda , and the World Health Organization for their valuable contributions. #PublicHealthLeadership #HealthSecurity #GlobalInitiatives

As we celebrate the second anniversary of the?7-1-7?Alliance, we’re highlighting stories of the?7-1-7?target in action. Health authorities at the local, state and country levels are increasingly using?7-1-7?to quickly detect potential disease threats, notify the proper channels, and begin an early response – acting faster and saving lives. ? Recife, Brazil was one of the first cities in the world to pilot the?7-1-7?target and used it effectively in 2023 during Carnival—one of the country’s largest events—to prevent any major outbreaks. Data shows impressive improvement in the city’s response to health threats: In 2024, 49% of outbreaks were detected, notified and responded to within the full?7-1-7target, an increase from 36% in 2023. ? Their success is teaching us that?7-1-7?improves outbreak performance when applied routinely, is effective at both the country and local levels, and hinges on the commitment of strong public health leaders.? ? Thank you to our partners in Recife and around the world who have shown over the past two years that it’s possible to act quickly to prevent epidemics. Watch this video to learn more and sign up to stay informed.?https://lnkd.in/g4n6XPwB

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed significant gaps in disease tracking and response systems, leaving many countries struggling to manage public health emergencies. The 7-1-7 tool is designed to help governments respond to disease outbreaks faster and more effectively. Dr Jane Greig, Burnet co-head of the Pacific Infectious Diseases (Operational Research, Surveillance and Resilience) working group, said the tool provides real-time assessments of public health action against?infectious disease threats.? “The 7-1-7 approach helps pinpoint both the strengths and bottlenecks in outbreak detection, notification, and response,” she said. “By assessing response speeds, we can quickly address delays where possible and implement long-term solutions for the future.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gMuuXa6v 7-1-7 Alliance Stephanie L.

Know about an outbreak that was stopped in its tracks using the 7-1-7 target? Let us know! We’re grateful to our partners and colleagues around the world who keep us safe from outbreaks most of the world never hears about. That’s what inspired us to start writing “Epidemics That Didn’t Happen” back in 2021, when the world was in the throes of a public health emergency. The report shows that preparedness works, and that outbreaks can be stopped in their tracks when countries have the investment and the systems to make this happen. Today, against a backdrop of ongoing outbreaks —and an unpredictable global health landscape—it’s important to show the value of successes in public health response efforts. So we’re going to be releasing regular stories highlighting these successes, and how the 7-1-7 target is a secret weapon for continuous improvement to find and stop outbreaks. We need your help in this effort! If you’ve been involved in, or heard about, an outbreak that was successfully stopped, please get in touch with us. Send us a message or email?[email protected].

Late last month, I had the privilege of joining public health experts from across the Caribbean for the Subregional Training on Early Action Review (EAR) in beautiful Bridgetown, Barbados. This training, organized by the Pan American Health Organization in collaboration with the World Health Organization (Headquarters), the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the 7-1-7 Alliance, brought together participants from 12 Caribbean nations to strengthen their capacities in outbreak detection, notification, and response. The participating countries included ?????????????? ?????? ??????????????, ??????????????, ????????????????, ????????????, ?????????????? ???????????? ??????????????, ????????????????, ??????????????, ????????????, ????. ??????????, ????. ?????????????? ?????? ?????? ????????????????????, ????????????????, ?????? ???????????????? ?????? ????????????. Together, we explored strategies to integrate EARs into national health systems, building a foundation for improved pandemic preparedness and response. ?? ?????? ?????????????????? ?????? ?????? ????????????: Many of these countries are also beneficiaries of The Pandemic Fund this year, a vital resource for strengthening health security in the Caribbean. The EAR/7-1-7 metric, integrated into the Pandemic Fund's Results Framework, is a transformative tool for assessing and enhancing the timeliness of outbreak management. By focusing on detection within 7 days, notification within 1 day, and response within 7 days, this approach helps: ?? Evaluate health system performance ?? Identify bottlenecks ?? Promote accountability in outbreak management READ MORE ABOUT THE TRAINING HERE: https://lnkd.in/eZj3S4zn I am grateful for the invitation!! 7-1-7 is the global target for containing epidemic threats: 7 days to detect an outbreak, 1 day to notify public health authorities, and 7 days to complete early response actions. But this target isn't just for collecting metrics—it’s also for performance improvement, advocacy, and accountability. At PATH, we're proud to collaborate with Resolve To Save Lives through the 7-1-7 Alliance to strengthen epidemic preparedness and response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. "Together, we have worked to sensitize key stakeholders on the importance of timely and effective outbreak detection, reporting, and response," says Trad Hatton, Director of PATH's #CentralAfrica Hub and #DRC Country Program. "This partnership has been instrumental in fostering a shared commitment to improving health systems and ensuring a more resilient and prepared DRC."
