Exciting News from the SNS JU 6G Architecture Working Group With the ongoing 3GPP SA1 Release 20 6G Study Item and the current 3GPP 6G workshop in Incheon, South Korea, we are rapidly moving towards the realization of the 6G system. The definition of the 6G architecture plays a crucial role in this journey. I am pleased to announce that the SNS JU 6G Architecture Working Group has published the pre-release version of our first white paper for public consultation. ?? ? As #MWC2025 comes to an end, we reflect on an inspiring week of discussions, innovations, and collaboration. We started strong on Monday with our session, “Digital Infrastructure of the Future: Shaping Europe’s Competitive Edge” which gathered a fully-packed room at 9AM on #MWC25 Day 1. We brought together industry executives and EU policymakers to discuss how #Europe can lead in next-generation connectivity by fostering investment, collaboration, and innovation in 6G, AI, and computing-centric networks and services. Renate Nikolay, Deputy Director-General at the European Commission, DG CONNECT set the stage with a strategic vision for Europe’s digital transformation, reinforcing the importance of technological sovereignty and a strong digital backbone. Erzsébet Fitori, SNS JU Executive Director, closed the session with key takeaways: ?? Sustained European funding for research is essential to drive innovation. ?? A holistic, end-to-end approach is needed to connect research, innovation, and real-world applications. ?? Standardisation, supportive policies, and regulatory clarity will be key milestones. ?? Developing strong use cases and business models will bring new industry players together and ensure long-term impact. Throughout the week, we visited industry booths and SNS JU-funded projects that showcased groundbreaking technologies—from AI-powered networks to digital twins and integrated sensing. Seeing these innovations in action was a reminder of how European research and innovation is already shaping the future of connectivity. A key moment was attending Henna Virkkunen’s keynote. The European Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy highlighted the importance of bold investments, regulatory simplification, and Europe’s commitment to strengthening its AI and computing infrastructure. Her message aligns closely with Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU)’s mission—to drive research, innovation, and collaboration to support Europe’s digital leadership. ??
