A week ago, the world's largest #connectivity event came to an end: #MWC25 ??. ?? #6GREFERENCE attended the Mobile World Congress 2025, celebrated in Barcelona from the 3rd to the 6th of March, to join key players from the #telecoms ecosystem shaping Europe’s?new era of digital innovation. ?? We were present in the booth of our coordinator Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), represented by Ignacio Llamas, Senior Researcher. On Monday, during the first day of the event, he showcased the #6GREFERENCEproject progress to representatives from Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) and the European Commission. ???? The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) has hosted an insightful session at #MWC2025! Our session, “Digital Infrastructure of the Future: Shaping Europe’s Competitive Edge”, highlighted Europe’s vision for next-generation connectivity and the role of digital infrastructure in shaping industrial competitiveness. Erzsébet Fitori, Executive Director of SNS JU, set the stage by underlining a crucial message: to lead in next-generation connectivity, Europe must take a holistic, end-to-end approach. Building on lessons from #5G deployment, #6G networks must be more efficient, secure, and sustainable from the outset. This requires strong European funding, seamless collaboration between industries, and policies that support innovation and investment. The session featured two engaging panel discussions: ?? The first one explored how #Europe can transition from traditional telecom infrastructures to computing-centric networks that integrate AI, edge computing, and cloud-native architectures. Industry leaders discussed how collaboration across the digital ecosystem is essential to maintaining Europe’s global competitiveness. ?? The second one showcased real-world applications across industries, from smart #mobility to #aviation, digital #ports, and public #safety. The discussion highlighted the need for investment strategies that ensure ubiquitous coverage and effective collaboration between network providers and industry sectors. With SNS JU at the heart of European 6G research, backed by €1.8 billion in public funding and matching private investment, the commitment to driving innovation, fostering industrial transformation, and strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty is clearer than ever. ?? What a day at #MWC2025! Yesterday, we had the incredible opportunity to visit some of the most innovative #6G demonstrations showcased by Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU)-funded projects. These demos highlighted how #AI, #digitaltwins, and sensing technologies are shaping the future of next-generation networks. ?? At the Keysight booth, we explored the 6G-SANDBOX Project demo on “Digital Twins for 6G.” This technology creates a virtual replica of large-scale private networks, integrating real-time telemetry, ray-tracing models, LIDAR data, and live telco configurations. Key focus was on its ability to predict network performance inside buildings, with a specific interest in deploying this in #Malaga. The result? A powerful tool for modelling, optimising, and accelerating 6G deployment, showing how candidate technologies will enhance future network capabilities. ?? Over at the InterDigital booth, we witnessed 6G-SHINE project’s demonstration of Integrated Sensing and Communication (#ISAC): an AI-powered system that enables autonomous robots to navigate smart factory environments while avoiding obstacles. The demo illustrated how base stations and user devices can detect objects and environmental factors, enhancing both connectivity and automation in industrial settings. Additionally, CENTRIC and 6G-SANDBOX presented a Dynamic AI-Enabled Sensing demo, showcasing how AI and Joint Communications and Sensing (JCAS) technologies converge to enhance network intelligence. ?? At the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) booth, several projects were on display, offering insights into key research areas in 6G development: ?? 6G-REFERENCE showcased its contributions through visual displays and printed materials. ??? 6G-NTN featured an animated video and expert interviews exploring its work on non-terrestrial networks. ?? VERGE and UNITY-6G provided engaging content on emerging 6G applications, highlighting innovative use cases. ?? Finally, at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya booth, we explored 6G-EWOC’s real-time #sensor fusion demonstration. This interactive showcase combined camera feeds with radar detection to track objects and people in motion—offering a glimpse into the potential applications of AI-assisted 6G technologies for autonomous vehicles and connected systems. ??
