Four Sixes Ranch is part of the famous Burnett Ranches LLC, which was among the most storied businesses in Texas history. The Four Sixes Ranch externship program fosters growth and education with students enrolled in veterinary school. Our veterinarians and staff are able to take these students in, and give them a space to learn and grow in their experiences before graduation. Jadeyn Arthur, 4th year vet student at Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine, completed her externship this fall, and was able to take away not only learned skills, but also community values that she can use in her future career. We’re delighted to announce Garrett Wehmeyer as the new Stallion Manager and Shelby Wehmeyer as the Herd Health Manager and Internship Coordinator here at the Four Sixes Ranch. Their story with the ranch began in 2021 during their undergraduate internships, but their connection goes back further to their time at Texas A&M, where they first met while conducting equine research. After graduating, they hoped to return to the Four Sixes, and now that dream has become a reality. General Manager of the Four Sixes Ranch, Joe Leathers, will be a key-note speaker at this year's Cornbelt Cow-Calf Conference on January 25, 2025 at The Bridge View Center in Ottumwa, Iowa. This is an exciting opportunity for producers, researchers, and over 100 industry representatives to come together to explore current topics and issues. Leathers brings over two decades of experience from the Four Sixes Ranch, paired with gained knowledge from being involved in the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Producer’s Council for the Cattle Traceability Working Group.
