    Understanding Your Role as an Employer: When to Act on Harassment—And When to Keep Quiet As an employer, you’re obligated to take swift action when harassment occurs in the workplace. But here’s a question that might not be on your radar: Are you required to warn other employees about a known harasser? According to a recent court ruling, the answer is no. Employers must ensure harassment is stopped and take steps to prevent it from happening again, but they don’t have to alert others to the harasser’s past behavior. Consider this scenario: An employee facing termination suddenly reports being harassed. You might think it’s a last-ditch effort to save their job—and you could be right. But as long as you thoroughly investigate the claim, take appropriate action (like disciplining or terminating the harasser), and ensure the harassment ends, you’re on solid legal ground to proceed with your planned disciplinary actions. However, if the harassment claim involves the supervisor pushing for the employee’s termination, don’t hesitate to get legal counsel immediately. This situation could easily escalate into a lawsuit, and being proactive is your best defense. ??
