Open a Door or Close a Door? Your resume has the power to either open a door or close it. Let’s talk resumes. Simple, right? It should be. But the truth is that creating a strong resume is more challenging than most people realize. Every day, I come across resumes that need serious improvement—whether it’s formatting issues, missing key details, or just being too sparse. Some have only two bullet points under each role. If you're open to new opportunities, why wouldn’t you put your best foot forward? When I see a "bare-bones" resume, it’s easy to pass. Why would I spend my time deciphering or trying to read between the lines to figure out what you do? Door closed. On the other hand, when I come across a well-written resume that clearly outlines your skills, strengths, achievements, and the value you bring—guess what? I pick up the phone and call. Door open. Your resume is more than a document. It’s your first impression. Make it count. Action Item: Review your resume today. Is it complete, polished, and presenting your best self? If not, set aside time this week to improve it.? ? Example: Schedule 30 minutes this week to polish your resume. Ensure each section is complete and formatted correctly, then ask a friend for feedback.?

Does Company Culture Matter Anymore?? ? To cut to the chase: yes, it absolutely does. You might be shaking your head right now, thinking, "Not again with the culture talk," but hear me out.? ? Just this week, I prepped two candidates for interviews where we spent a solid amount of time discussing company culture and values. It’s something that’s becoming more and more of a focal point in hiring practices.? ? There’s been a shift lately towards aligning employees with the core values of a company—and honestly, I think it’s a smart move. In my experience as a recruiter, culture isn’t some vague buzzword. At its core, it’s about collaboration, respect, the ability to receive constructive feedback, and adapting to new challenges.? ? In today’s world, companies are putting more effort into finding candidates who can not only do the job but work well within a team, contribute to a positive work environment, and mesh with the company’s broader mission.? ? So, here’s the question: When hiring managers look beyond just a polished resume and start evaluating personality and culture fit, does it actually make a difference in the long run??
