Like construction workers, veterans face a higher risk of suicide due to post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and many other factors that can contribute to this increased risk. Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay, bringing attention to mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma. Our program was started in 2022 after noticing the concerning statistics regarding suicide rates in the construction industry and provides Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training courses, life-saving resources, and presentations to crews throughout Arizona. For #NationalSuicidePreventionWeek, we had the opportunity to participate in events that helped us raise awareness and share ways to improve mental health in the construction industry. 4x5 Program Director, Sidney Hawkins, presented at the CFMA - Valley of the Sun Chapter Suicide Prevention Panel and we also had the chance to speak with construction professionals at the American Subcontractors Association of Arizona PPE Panel and Expo about mental health safety in our industry.
