COBRA GOLD 2025 ?????? Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team participated in Joint Exercise Cobra Gold 2025 in early March. This exercise united 3,200 U.S. service members and 5,000 service members from 30 nations across the Pacific! 1-12 IN, alongside the Royal Thai Army, conducted numerous exercises such as mounted and dismounted patrol operations, stinger and javelin training, and observing rocket fires from High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS). As the U.S. Army's marquee multi-domain operations division, we continue to enhance our interoperability with joint and partner forces around the world. Today, Dr. Kimberly Dickman, an assistant professor at the Center for Character and Leadership Development at the U.S. Air Force Academy, was awarded the "Distinguished Visiting Professor of Character and Leadership" by Maj. Gen. David Doyle, the commanding general of 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson. Today, the 4th Infantry Division presented the Purple Heart to Capt. James McDaniel for his heroic actions in 2012 during an insurgent attack on the Provincial Headquarters (PHQ) in Kandahar, Afghanistan. At the time of the attack, then-Spc. McDaniel served as a member of the Security Force Advisory and Assistance Team 25. On July 9, 2012, PHQ insurgents initiated an assault with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device that detonated on a mud/brick wall separating the PHQ from a schoolhouse. McDaniel, who was initially disoriented by the blast, quickly regained his composure and joined his fellow Soldiers in responding to the attack. He provided cover fire and supported the evacuation of U.S. personnel, all while under heavy enemy fire. Throughout the engagement, McDaniel demonstrated exceptional courage and selflessness, putting the safety of his teammates above his own. Join us in thanking Capt. James McDaniel for his tremendous bravery and continued service to our great nation.
