Today, we are investing $3.5 million to connect small and mid-scale family farms with #FoodisMedicine programs. These programs offer fresh produce, medically tailored meals, and nutrition support to people with chronic diseases. We are proud to collaborate with 4P Foods, Adelante Mujeres, Alameda County Recipe4Health, Community Servings, Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, Hawai?i Good Food Alliance, and The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University who are supporting rural farmers through innovative models, while also providing access to healthy foods and education for people who need it most. By locally sourcing produce from these farmers, Food is Medicine programs have the potential to improve livelihoods for farmers and support economic development in their communities. Together we can improve health outcomes, strengthen local economies, and build a healthier and more prosperous future. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gFXd6hRe Christina Economos Kaiulani Odom

Regenerative agriculture is a growing and changing landscape that can include different practices based on what crop or livestock the farm is raising. Imagine a farm that not only produces scrumptious and nutritious food but also works like a natural ecosystem, buzzing with life and energy. That’s what regenerative farmers strive for – a balance that supports all life forms. Read more: https://lnkd.in/es-6gakd

Jen Palmer, William & Mary’s account manager with 4P Foods, attended FarmFest on campus last week. Aramark partners with us to source ingredients from 200 local producers and farmers along the eastern seaboard. “We try to source wisely and pick [farms] who are doing regenerative or sustainable practices, returning things to the soil and making the soil better than it was before they started,” Palmer said. In a traditional food supply chain, food changes hands 7 to 12 times over thousands of miles. This practice reduces farmers’ profits and disconnects consumers from food sources, including knowledge of who grew the food and how it was treated. In contrast, the 4P Foods supply chain maximizes farmers’ profits, provides transparency about farmers and their farming techniques, and facilitates produce customization to meet the cultural needs of the communities that they serve. 4P Foods encourages other FIM implementers to source food locally so that they can help realize similar environmental, nutritional, and economic benefits.
