Over the past several months, 4AIR has been pleased to support the work of Project SkyPower to advance #SustainableAviation. Led by 13 industry CEOs and backed by the technical expertise of over 50 member organizations, Project SkyPower is committed to making #eSAF from Power to Liquid (#PtL) sources a commercial reality this decade. The new initiative unites leaders from across the European #aviation and energy sectors to accelerate the scaling of eSAF. The goal is to pave the way for the first large-scale eSAF plants to reach final investment decision by the end of 2025, with operations beginning by 2030. Released this week, SkyPower’s report outlines a ten-point action plan to accelerate new #SAF plants towards final investment decision, with specific asks for governments, investors and companies. Learn more about the initiative and read about the plan at: https://lnkd.in/eDZHvFXu
How do we accelerate the take-off for e-SAF in Europe and achieve the paradigm shift necessary to achieve 2030 ReFuelEU and UK e-SAF mandates? Project SkyPower members have aligned on a 10-point action plan that, if implemented, could: 1?? In the short term, provide a pathway to first investment decision (FID) for the first large-scale e-SAF plants in Europe by the end of 2025 2??In the long-run, support the next wave of e-SAF projects and broader scale-up of e-SAF beyond 2030. This transition will not be driven by economics - it will be driven by political will and industry ambition. A fundamentally different approach is required in which the full value chain and policymakers put their weight behind the European e-SAF industry: ?? Policy makers need to scale direct support to e-SAF from the millions to the billions. ?? Offtakers need to sign 10+ year binding offtake agreements to provide revenue certainty ?? Financiers need to better understand the risks of FOAK (first-of-a-kind) e-SAF projects in order to manage them adequately and provide financing. Swipe below to view five short-term actions for first projects to get to FID in the next year, plus another five long-term actions needed to ensure the scale-up of e-SAF beyond 2030. Aviation can achieve Net-Zero by 2050 if action is taken - but we need to take action now. Since its founding, 4AIR has supported the Aviation Impact Accelerator (AIA), the Whittle Laboratory and Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) and they've just released their groundbreaking report, ‘Five Years to Chart a New Future for Aviation’, outlining an ambitious plan aimed at transformative change by 2030. The report outlines four Sustainable Aviation Goals to achieve #SustainableAviation: ?? Accelerating delivery of contrail avoidance ??Unlocking system-wide efficiency gains across the existing aviation sector ?Rapidly scaling sustainable fuels ??Launching several moonshot tech demos to drive transformative change Read the full report below: #SustainableAviation #SustainableFuture #ClimateAction #GreenAviation #Sustainability #AviationImpact #ClimateLeadership #NetZero #Innovation

Did you know? Different feedstocks and production pathways result in varying carbon intensities (CIs) of SAF. A Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) plays a critical role in tracking and documenting these variations for accurate emissions reporting. By evaluating feedstocks from sourcing to combustion, a LCA can accurately detail the full benefit from SAF compared to traditional jet fuel. LCAs provide crucial transparency and accuracy in emissions reporting. Read more at: https://heyor.ca/OfnE6S

Understanding the carbon intensity (CI) of your fuel on a Well-to-Wake basis (WTW) is essential in to understanding the full lifecycle emissions impact of fuel. Our recent whitepaper provides a comprehensive view of how lifecycle analyses work and their importance to sustainability in the aviation industry. Read more at: https://heyor.ca/OfnE6S

What does it mean that SAF reduces emissions on a lifecycle basis? A life cycle analysis (LCA) evaluates greenhouse gas emissions from start to finish, from feedstock cultivation to SAF combustion. They are critical for accurately capturing the full sustainability story, reporting the emissions benefit from SAF, and understanding how some SAF reduces emissions more than others. Learn about the importance of LCAs in understanding the full footprint from SAF and its net benefit over fossil-based jet in our latest whitepaper. https://heyor.ca/OfnE6S

4AIR’s own Anneliese Dyer joined the National Business Aviation Association Young Professionals in Business Aviation (YoPro) in Washington DC this week to meet with members of congress and to enhance policies around long-term sustainability initiatives for the aviation industry, including promoting the production and consumption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). 4AIR has documented the environmental attributes of more than 11 million blended gallons of SAF and views SAF as a crucial path for the aviation industry to meet its decarbonization goals.

Ahead of EU ETS requirements to monitor and report non-CO2 emissions in 2025, we’re developing solutions to assist with and automate those monitoring requirements. Our contrail study over the past year was a major effort to better understand business aviation’s contrail and non-CO2 impact and prepare for these coming monitoring needs.
