Hey hey LinkedIn Peeps! Ngl, it's been pretty tumultuous over the last couple of months revealing many feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. And finding a space to have courageous conversations has been near impossible leading to poor mental and emotional wellbeing. But I genuinely believe folks across the spectrum have been craving a space to truly speak from the ?? and listen from the ??. A space where they can take steps towards coming together and working collectively so that our communities can thrive!!! #AscendingLeadersInColor (ALC) is a space where difficult dialogue can happen with people leaving knowing that they've not only actively listened, but that they themselves have been heard. This is the first step to healing. ???? In the ALC space, leaders of color can authentically be real, reconnect with other peeps of color, and reclaim every part of who they are so that they lead with more authenticity, courage, and joy in ALL the spaces they occupy. And ALC is also where white folks in dedicated spaces can reflect, relearn, and reemerge stronger allies in the fight for basic human rights. ??? So why am I telling you all this??? Well let me tell you! ?? Britta Homelvig and I are ready to launch the next two cohorts of #AscendingLeadersInColor (ALC) here in Pima County! One alumnus described her ALC experience as "“nothing shy of exceptional,” adding that her cohort "pulled back the veil in a way that I’ve never experienced in other programs. And to be able to do that in the space of peers… (it’s) truly transformational!” ?? So mark your calendars! ?? The dates for the next in-person cohorts are: April 8, 15 May 13, 20 June 17, 24 July 8, 22 August 12, 26 We will be meeting from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm AZ Time. Location to be determined. There are only 20 slots available. Ten (10) for Peeps of Color and ten (10) for white allies. If you are interested EVEN if you do not live in Pima County, please click this form here https://lnkd.in/gAnBjmaV ???? ???? For more info about ALC visit 4 Da Hood at 4dahood.com/alc-fellowship. #MovingEquityForward #forthehoodforthegood #courageousconversations P.S. The pics include some ALC alumni and perhaps future alumni! ??????????????????

When we think about the richest people in history, names like Jeff Bezos might come to mind. But history tells a different story. African King Mansa Musa of the Mali Empire was possibly the richest man in history, with an estimated worth of over $400 billion in today's dollars, surpassing Jeff Bezos' wealth. In fact, his wealth was so vast it was described as incalculable. In 1324, Mansa Musa set out on a pilgrimage (hajj) to Mecca with tens of thousands of people and camels carrying 300 pounds of gold each. When he passed through Egypt, he spent and gave away so much gold that the overall value of gold decreased in Egypt for the next 12 years. His giving wasn’t just about wealth redistribution. - He funded libraries. - Built mosques. - Established learning centers. - Built infrastructure that transformed Mali into a hub of education and culture. It was about giving generations the ability to preserve their history and expand their knowledge. Because true wealth isn’t what you hoard - it’s what you pass on. That’s the kind of wealth that never runs out. Happy Black History Month (Even if Google would rather pretend it doesn’t exist.)

    • A historical map illustration of Mansa Musa, the 14th-century ruler of the Mali Empire, depicted wearing a golden crown and holding a golden orb in his left hand while seated on a throne. He is dressed in flowing robes and holds a scepter in his right hand. The map, adorned with red and green guide lines, includes various labeled locations, buildings, and other geographical markers. The illustration highlights Mansa Musa's immense wealth and influence, symbolized by the gold elements in his attire and possessions.

Hey Folks! Frank Vela?squez Jr. , our founder, will be joining powerhouse Angela Barnes, MBA, CFRE in speaking at the 2024 Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global) LEAD conference!!! His sesh, “Unity in Distinction: How Dedicated Spaces Empower PoC and White Allies to Lead Together,” is one you don’t want to miss! Imagine bringing your full, authentic self into leadership spaces without fear of judgment or others’ discomfort. The reality is that access to these spaces requires People of Color to leave behind the very things that make them authentic in order to “fit” in. And white allies often don’t understand why. In this session, Frank invites folks to share their experiences and explores how dedicated learning spaces empower leaders and foster deep connections. PoC and white allies will leave the session appreciating each other’s perspective and be better equipped to collectively lead with more authenticity and joy, and in the process transform our communities. Apply for one of these scholarships to experience a leadership conference like no other! #MovingRacialEquityForward
