  • Should You Mention Visable Tattoos on Your CV? ? ?? Tattoos in yachting have come a long way. When I started (a looooooong time ago), even a small visible ankle tattoo could cost you a job. Today, yachts are much more accepting—let’s credit the yacht chefs for leading the way on this one! So, should you mention visable tattoos on your CV? Honestly, it’s up to you. But being upfront could save you time. Some yachts are fine with small tattoos but draw the line at full sleeves. I’ve had interviews where, after 20 minutes of great conversation, I finally ask about tattoos—only to find out the candidate has a full leg or arm sleeve, which wasn’t a fit for that particular yacht. Transparency can help match you with the right boat faster. What do you think— Do you list tattoos on your CV? #YachtCrew #CVTips #YachtJobs

  • My Heart Melted Yesterday When I Read This Message. ?? This candidate reached out to me for advice. He holds his OOW and wanted to transition into yachting but was struggling to find a role. He was clear about his goals, patient, and—most importantly—he took action. He made the necessary changes, stayed determined, and kept pushing forward. Yesterday, he sent me this message, sharing that he landed a great position. I couldn’t be happier for him! I want to highlight that I did not place him in this role—he did that himself. But knowing I could help in a small way means everything. I truly love supporting crew where I can. Wishing him all the best on his new adventure! And thank you for the kind words—it made my day. ?? #Yachting #CrewSupport #CVAdvice #HelpingCrew #YachtJobs

  • ?? The most important advice I can give to GREEN YACHT CREW. ?? Before you spend money on all those yacht courses, have a plan. I see it too often: green crew investing in courses(some of them unnecessary), then realizing they can’t afford to go where the jobs are. Your chances are limited if you stay home hoping boats will call and fly you over—it rarely happens, unless you have highly desirable skills. (And I'm not picking on you guys, but it's mainly South Africans.) Plan ahead. Budget for flights, accommodations, and networking. If necessary, forgo those extra yacht courses. That’s how you set yourself up for success. #YachtCrew #GreenCrew #YachtingJobs #PlanAhead #Dockwalking

  • Knife skills won't cut it - How you can make your CV stand out as a yacht chef. We all know yacht chefs need a large repertoire, but how you present it on your CV makes a difference. Here are some easy ways to stand out: 1?? List Your Specialties (But Keep It Real) Instead of listing every cuisine, highlight the ones you truly excel at. Think: Thai, Sushi, Mediterranean, Kosher, Plant-Based, Vegan, etc. A well-placed specialty might be exactly what a yacht is looking for. 2?? Showcase Your Experience Go beyond just listing roles—give examples that highlight your skills: ? Created an 8-course tasting menu, including wine pairings, for a 12-guest bridal shower. ? Designed a rotating weekly crew menu catering to vegan, lactose-free, and gluten-free diets. 3?? Highlight the Workload Captains want to know you can handle the pace. Did you work on a high-pressure yacht? Say so! ? 10 weeks of back-to-back charters, primarily Arabic guests, operating a 24-hour galley. 4?? Menus Matter A sample weekly menu can give a captain or owner a preview of your style. It’s an easy way to set yourself apart. What’s your standout feature? Drop it in the comments! ?? #YachtChef #YachtCrew #YachtJobs #ChefLife #CVTips #YachtRecruitment

  • Is your CV boring? Let's fix it! (This is for the interior crew.) Interior CVs often list the same generic duties: service, housekeeping, laundry—rinse and repeat. But what actually makes you stand out? ?? Trained junior stews? Show how you helped build a strong team. ?? Hosted events? Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival, or boat shows. Talk about it. Theme nights, extravagant birthdays - share it. ?? Provisioned in remote locations? No florist? No problem—you handled the arrangements yourself. ?? Successful charters? Mention if you had repeat guests, or how many weeks of charters and guests trips you managed. ?? Luxury service skills? Fine wine knowledge, cigar service, or personalized guest touches—make it known. Your CV isn’t a checklist—it’s your chance to show captains what they can expect from you on board. #YachtCrew #StewardessLife #YachtCV #CVtips #InteriorCrew

  • How long is too long? I just saw a 10-page yacht CV. Yes, TEN. But what really surprises me is green crew submitting 3–4 page CVs. More is not better—I promise you that. Recruiters, Captains, and HODs scan CVs quickly. If your key details are buried in unnecessary information, they won’t stand out. A great CV should highlight your best experiences and leave the reader wanting to know more about you—not overwhelm them. Ideal CV length? One page is great for green crew, two max (even for experienced crew). Cut the fluff, keep it relevant, and make every word count. And before you jump down my throat, you can do 3, if you are super experienced. How long is your CV? Be honest! ?? #YachtCrew #CVTips #YachtingJobs #JobSearch

  • Right Place, Right Time For all the green crew looking to get on their first boat—this one's for you. I get emails daily from new crew who have just obtained their certificates and are eager to join the industry. The problem? They’re at home, waiting. Gone are the days when yachts would fly in crew with no experience and no specialized skills. I often hear, "I got my certs—I'm ready to join a yacht!" But when I ask where they are, the response is usually South Africa, the UK, Argentina, and beyond. Here’s the reality: Yachts prefer to hire green crew who are already local to where the boat is. If a yacht is in the Caribbean, they’d rather take a chance on someone in the Caribbean or Florida than fly someone halfway across the world. Why? 1?? It’s more cost-effective – Flights, visas, it all adds up. 2?? They can trial you – A local hire means they can test your skills before committing. But beyond that, being where the yachts are gives you an advantage as a greenie: ? Networking – Meeting captains, crew agents, and fellow crew in person increases your chances of landing a job. ? Figuring out what you prefer – Big boat vs. small boat? Motor vs. sail? The crew? Being on the ground gives you a chance to explore before jumping on the first boat that offers. ? More opportunities for daywork – You gain hands-on experience and get your name out there. If you’re serious about yachting, relocation should be part of your plan—just like budgeting for your courses. Summer season in the Med is right around the corner. Are you going to where the yachts are? #YachtCrew #GreenCrew #YachtingIndustry #CrewJobs #Yaching
