There has been a lot of hard work amongst the program partners and great leadership to get this program off the ground! The numbers do tell us that private residents are ready to help manage our water resources if cities/water agencies make it easy to do the right thing! 3R’s Follow the Drop platform is helping people identify, professionally size, and submit their rainwater capture projects for the City’s program. Once installed it will prepare households for storms and measure the impact of their projects. There are also community nonprofits available to assist with free stormwater house calls and jobs being built as contractors expand their services. Let us know if you’d like to learn more or comment here how your cities are helping the communities build climate resilience with nature based solutions!?????
?? A Bright Spot for Climate Resilience! ??? Amid the tragedies and unknowns that started off 2025, there’s a bright light being made in Honolulu. On January 6th, the City and County of Honolulu, Malama Maunalua and the Hawaii Community Foundation launched a pilot Green Stormwater Infrastructure Program aimed at tackling urban water management issues while empowering the community. The unique program provides FREE installations by program selected contractors of rain barrels, trees, and rain gardens—up to $2,500 in value—for O?ahu residents. What’s even more impactful is the program’s focus on inclusivity, targeting renters and households that might typically be excluded from traditional rebate-based programs. ?? Why does this matter? Nature-based solutions, like rain gardens, native trees and water storage help reduce pollution, prevent flooding, and restore local water cycles. By turning urban spaces into “pockets of sponges,” we can build water supplies, reduce the risks of fires and floods, and create a more resilient future for communities. In just two weeks, over 1,000 residents applied, demonstrating the community’s enthusiasm for creating sustainable solutions. Small actions like these add up to big change! ???? Applicantions remain open through March 31st! 3Rwater, Inc.’s Follow the Drop platform is available for download for Oahu residents to apply. Attention Honolulu residents, businesses and schools ??! This summer @HawaiiGreenGrowth is offering free rainwater assessments to help you identify rainwater capture solutions and link you to incentives! You can also download the @FollowtheDrop app from the Apple Store and Google Play and register your own account using the account ID "HGG" for use in the Honolulu area. Using Follow the Drop you can learn how much stormwater is coming off your property, different sizes and types of practices to implement to reduce your impact, prepare for storms and track stormwater volumes you are capturing. If you want assistance, sign up for an assessment. They are FREE for a limited time! https://lnkd.in/g-eye6hU
