A group of talented students from Rosemount High School volunteered their time this summer to paint a new mural at 360 Communities' Food Shelf and Resource Center in Rosemount! They worked together to create a beautiful tree surrounded by the word “Welcome” in twelve different languages. Thank you to Site Coordinator Tom Halloran for his engagement with these gifted students and for promoting a culture of inclusion within our community. ?? #AllAreWelcome #HelpInTheMoment #HopeForTheFuture

Initially recognized with a week-long celebration in 1968 and later expanded to a month-long observance, Hispanic Heritage Month is now celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15. This timeframe was chosen because it coincides with the independence days of several Central American countries, including Honduras, Mexico, Chile, Belize, and Guatemala, among others. Hispanic Heritage Month is a dedicated time to honor the significant contributions, history, and diverse cultures within the Hispanic and Latino/a/x American community. It also highlights the unique voices and experiences of key figures such as Andy Garcia, Dr. Ellen Ochoa, Helen Rodriguez-Trias, Olga E. Custodio, Roberto Lugo, Sandra Cisneros, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and Willie Colón, who have made groundbreaking contributions to shaping American culture, history, and democracy. Our community has experienced another loss of life to domestic violence-related homicide. On August 25th, 2024, 27-year-old Payao Vang was shot and killed by her husband in the city of Empire. Our hearts are with Payao’s loved ones during this extremely difficult time. So far this year, there have been at least seven deaths in Dakota County alone that were a result of domestic violence. These deaths are preventable and have far-reaching impacts. It takes all of us to address these public health and safety issues. 360 Communities remains committed to engaging communities to prevent violence and promote healthy relationships. You can help by supporting survivors and holding perpetrators accountable. Together, we are stronger, and together, we can create communities where domestic violence isn’t the norm. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse from a family member or an intimate partner, call us 24/7 at (651) 452-7288. This summer, 360 Communities welcomed two Minnesota Summer Impact Corps members through Ampact. Mildred Agyapong and Maddie Johnson joined us as Housing Stability Fellows. Their role was to engage in and provide services that support stability and financial security for our clients. Mildred and Maddie took on many tasks while working at our Resource Centers in Burnsville and Rosemount. Here's what their supervisors had to say: "Mildred Agyapong joined us in Burnsville through the AmeriCorps summer program. We have enjoyed working alongside her as she engaged in all parts of our Food Shelf and Community Resources volunteer positions. Her kind and compassionate nature has created a calm and welcoming experience for our clients. We have appreciated her hard work and dedication to helping the people we serve each day. It was wonderful to work with you, Mildred!" ?? "Maddie Johnson was the Rosemount Food Shelf’s rock star Intern from June through August this summer. Every day, Maddie gave us her all, filling in nearly every role the food shelf required. She worked 11-hour days on Tuesdays, became an essential manager of the chaos of our Pop-Up Produce Markets, and always kept us laughing. She bonded with dozens of our families and nearly telepathically knew when a client needed a toy for a child’s birthday or something we had in reserve to lift them up. We are deeply grateful for her service and thankful for her devotion to our team and families." ??
