Malaysia and Indonesia are approving legislation and signing deals to build Asia's biggest carbon storage hubs. But it won't solve the climate crisis ? “The real solution isn’t to bury carbon; it’s to stop digging up more". ??Sisilia Dewi, 350 Indonesia https://lnkd.in/gCVEWcK9

We're an international movement of ordinary people working to end the fossil fuel era and build a better future for all.
关于我们
350.org works on grassroots campaigns across the globe, leveraging people power — individuals working together in pursuit of a common goal — to dismantle the influence and infrastructure of the fossil fuel industry and to power up clean systems rooted in justice. To build a more sustainable and just future, we collaborate with communities at the frontline of the climate crisis, those who have historically contributed the least emissions but are feeling the worst effects. We campaign and organise to show the world we really want, in pursuit of energy justice and distributed renewable energy solutions that will move us away from fossil fuels, for good. Over the past 15 years, we have mobilised with people around the world to confront injustice and challenge our fossil-fuelled economic systems. Together, we have achieved extraordinary things, from getting millions of people onto the streets worldwide, to moving trillions of dollars away from the fossil fuel industry, to stopping dirty coal, oil and fossil gas plants and pipelines. We take on ambitious fights – and we often win!

Ilan Zugman of 350 Latin American is calling for Brazilian President Lula to prioritise a further move to renewables. "Brazil every year gives billions and billions of dollars to subsidize the fossil fuel industry...we'd like to see Brazil shifting some of these subsidies from #FossilFuels to #Renewables. The money is there; it is just not being put in the right places.” https://lnkd.in/gEfGANKY?

Forests are not only a valuable global carbon sink. For centuries, they have also played a crucial role in its dwellers’ food security, nutrition and livelihoods. However, the remoteness of forest villages often makes energy access a challenge–one that a community in Indonesia’s West Java overcame by harnessing the power of renewables. Read their story here. ??

The momentum for #Renewables is growing! Our new report with Zero Carbon Analytics shows: ?? 19 countries have submitted new climate goals of which 15 have quantitative RE targets ?? 7 have new RE targets ?? 8 have ambitious targets of 90% or higher RE share or already have 75%+ RE Learn more?? https://lnkd.in/gUtfXaJ7

Anne Jellema, the executive director of 350.org, told Climate Home News: “The [$660 million] ruling sends a dangerous message to environmental organisations worldwide: that corporate polluters can weaponise the courts to silence opposition corporate polluters can weaponise the courts to silence opposition. If one of the world’s most prominent environmental organisations can face financial ruin for speaking out, smaller movements with fewer resources are even more vulnerable.” https://lnkd.in/gs4tCJBa An?open letter?to Energy Transfer expressing solidarity with Greenpeace has been signed by 450 organisations around the world. Chuck Baclagon, 350.org Asia regional campaigner, joins climate experts in urging the EU and China to step up as the US withdraws from the Loss and Damage Fund. "[It] is more than just another broken promise—it is a severe blow to climate-vulnerable nations, particularly in Asia, where climate change is already a daily reality.”

The rise of the right has emboldened Big Oil like never before. Governments are rolling back environmental protections, greenlighting new drilling projects for coal, oil and gas, despite knowing that these polluting fossil fuels are behind the climate crisis we are all facing now. Meanwhile, Big Oil is doubling down. Backed by powerful allies in the government and media, it’s using its might against activists, and employing every trick in the book to silence dissent. What is their goal? To protect their sickeningly huge profits while destroying our communities and nature. But we aren’t going anywhere. We are resisting and fighting back. Here are five ways this battle is playing out – and what we can do about it. Ft. Greenpeace USA?? https://lnkd.in/eu5zXiNQ

I recently had the chance to catch up with 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben and ask him how he sees the anti-#climate, pro-fossil onslaught in the US and other countries. His take: The climate movement doesn't have the political power right now to win a face-off with the #fossilfuel industry. Instead we should grow our social power, by building on the clean energy momentum that is already growing globally. Bill cited 4 examples of how cheaper, healthier renewables are taking off with households and businesses around the world: 1. Die-hard red state #Texas installed more solar than any other US state last year, including 8 of the nation's 10 largest projects. 2. In a single year, #Pakistani consumers, fed up by unaffordable energy costs, installed rooftop solar equivalent to almost a third of the country's entire generating capacity. 3. Here in my home #SouthAfrica, solar grew by 350% in 2023 and continues to expand further as customers flee the state utlilty's high prices and frequent blackouts. 4. Solar and batteries will overtake #fossilgas this year as #Callifornia's largest source of energy. Social power is how we win, Bill thinks. By organizing more communities to make the switch to cheaper, healthier, locally-controlled renewables, we can drive out polluting, expensive corporate-controlled fossil energy. Interested to hear what others think!

The next time any government cuts benefits or overseas aid for the most vulnerable, ask yourself: Who are our political leaders really putting first — ordinary people or the super-rich?? Watch the video with our Europe Regional Director Nicolò Wojewoda and read more here: https://lnkd.in/dvSwPFmJ

Anne Jellema, the executive director of 350.org, told the Guardian: “The US retreat from its global climate finance commitments is a staggering blow to the chances of keeping global temperature rise to 1.5C [above preindustrial levels]. By abruptly axing nearly a tenth of the limited funds for climate protection in developing countries, it is effectively abandoning millions of communities who have done nothing to cause global heating but who are losing homes, livelihoods and lives because of it.”
