350 Chicago has reached a new milestone in our capacity as a climate fighting organization. We are proud to announce that Larry Coble has been hired to serve as our first Executive Director. He will be 350 Chicago’s first, full-time, long term employee. "It took a lot of work from volunteers, organizers and funders to get our organization to this point. With full time staff this lets us work even harder to move the needle and push Chicago and Illinois into taking real, meaningful steps towards solving the climate crisis" - Larry Coble? Larry co-founded 350 Chicago 10 years ago and we are extremely excited for him to lead this new phase of growth for 350 Chicago! Fine-tune Your BS Detector to Spot Climate Misinformation Climate misinformation causes damage in a number of ways – not just confusing people about the reality of climate change but even reducing trust in science and civic engagement, which compromises our ability to deal with the existential threat of climate change. In this presentation, Dr. John Cook will delve into the research on countering misinformation using critical thinking and how it can be practically implemented in fact-checking as well as other applications such as misinformation games. Dr. John Cook, who holds a PhD in Cognitive Science, is a Senior Research Fellow at the Melbourne Centre for Behaviour Change at the Univ. of Melbourne. is a research assistant professor at the Center for Climate Change Communication at George Mason Univ. He founded Skeptical Science, and published a landmark paper that proved a 97 percent scientific consensus on human-caused global warming.
