Carrier Library transformation is halfway there! Exciting progress is underway at JMU's iconic 1939 Carrier Library renovation and expansion. Construction has reached the halfway mark toward substantial completion in December 2025. At that point, finishing touches and move-in preparations will begin, leading to the library's grand reopening in fall 2026. Equipment is now in place to enable temperature conditioning, a critical step in paving the way for these final phases. By fall 2026, the transformed Carrier Library will open to the public as an innovation, research, and learning hub, blending modern, technology-rich spaces with its historic charm. "The University of Virginia is deeply embedded in the nation's founding democratic ideas and principles. The idea that citizens should be engaged and informed is absolutely essential to that. And that's what makes the University of Virginia the perfect place for the Karsh Institute of Democracy building." - Melody Barnes, Executive Director of the Karsh Institute of Democracy. This week, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the University of Virginia's Karsh Institute of Democracy, designed collaboratively with H?weler+Yoon Architecture, LLP. A landmark for democratic discourse, echoed by Jefferson's Rotunda, the new facility is envisioned as an educational ecosystem poised to unite faculty, students, the community, and visitors. Explore the project's heart and vision with the compelling video created by Hanbury's talented in-house Visualization Studio. We're proud to be part of the team bringing the Virginia Guesthouse Hotel & Conference Center at UVA to life. Exciting to see the progress unfold!
Here’s a timelapse video showing the installation of architectural precast panels at the upcoming Virginia Guesthouse Hotel & Conference Center, designed by @tenberke_architects and @hanbury.design. Watch as large, two-story panels, weighing over 36,000 lbs each, are delivered from the Arban Carosi & Diana precast plant in Northern Virginia. The final structural connections are made by a team of welders after each panel is precisely hoisted into place.
