Improving motor efficiency isn’t just about technology—it’s about developing the right frameworks to measure and guide progress. Through a multi-year research initiative, 2050 Partners worked alongside manufacturers, utilities, and energy efficiency advocates to refine motor system efficiency standards. A key contributor to this effort, Lily Baldewicz, played an important role in the development of the ANSI/NEMA 10011:2024 standard, which introduces improved test procedures that better capture real-world performance. These advancements could inform future policy and industry practices, helping industries reduce energy use and lower costs. Collaboration makes progress possible. Are you a more efficient or less efficient driver than your cruise control? In a recent paper published in Nature Communications, 2050 Partners' Matt Zebiak and members of the Vehicle & Mobility Systems team at Argonne National Laboratory use over a million kilometers of real-world driving data to compare the energy efficiency of human drivers and today's automated driving systems (adaptive cruise control). The results may surprise you! ? After analyzing how automated driving systems over- or under-perform their human counterparts in various scenarios and conditions, the team offers tangible recommendations for how to design the super-efficient automated driving system of the future. ? We are grateful for our collaborative work with Argonne National Laboratory and look forward to more exciting findings in the future! The full text is available for free at?https://lnkd.in/gJ74NKEV
