Yet, over 2 billion people still lack access to safely managed drinking water, and 1 in 10 live in countries facing severe water shortages. The challenges are growing: ?? 27 trillion cubic meters of natural water storage lost in just 50 years. ?? By 2040, 1 in 4 children will face water scarcity. ?? 83% decline in freshwater species since 1970—an urgent warning of ecosystem collapse. At The World Bank Group, we are scaling up solutions to secure water for people, food, and the planet. From clean drinking water to sustainable agriculture and ecosystem protection, water connects us all. This #WorldWaterDay, colleagues from across the World Bank Group share one powerful message: Water is Life. ??? Watch our latest video to hear voices from around the world: Saroj Kumar Jha

Congratulations to the Government of Kenya, the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and?Irrigation?and Kenya's State Department of Irrigation (SDI) on the official launch of the National?Irrigation?Sector Investment Plan (NISIP) today. NISIP is a strategic 10-year plan aimed to transform Kenya's agricultural landscape by expanding irrigation to 1 million acres by 2035, driving food security, economic resilience, and sustainable farming practices. The initiative paves the way for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors for scalable irrigation solutions and enhanced agricultural practices in the country, thereby boosting yields, creating jobs across the agricultural value chain, and empowering smallholder farmers to scale their operations. The World Bank Water and 2030 Water Resources Group are proud to have worked with the government and partners to develop NISIP and support #Kenya in shifting its approach to resilient irrigation expansion. Water security will not be possible without water reuse. This was a key message from The World Bank Water Global Director, Saroj Kumar Jha, during his keynote at the International Water Association’s Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse in Cape Town, #SouthAfrica. He emphasized that significantly scaling water reuse for domestic and industrial sectors over the next decade will require a substantial increase in capacity, driven by bold policy shifts, innovative financing, and strong stakeholder collaboration. The conference brought together experts from around the world to explore how policy, technology, and community engagement can accelerate large-scale water reuse in response to the escalating global water crisis. This article from South African media, Daily Maverick, delves deeper into this critical conversation:?https://lnkd.in/dYkafj7r #2030WRG #WaterReuse #WaterSecurity #Partnerships4Water Michael John Webster, Global Water Security and Sanitation Partnership

Water is the backbone of #Bangladesh’s textile and leather industries, but sustainable water management is essential to securing their long-term growth. To pave the way, 2030 Water Resources Group (WRG) recently brought together key stakeholders in Dhaka to advance scalable water reuse solutions. The dialogue convened leading factories, brands, business associations, public agencies, academia, and development partners to build a collaborative ecosystem for action. Discussions centered on establishing a functional Alliance to coordinate efforts, designing incentive mechanisms to accelerate industry adoption, leveraging AI and IoT for data validation to support informed decision-making, and scaling investments with proven ROI to ensure sustainability. Bangladesh has a unique opportunity to transform its water management approach, driving economic growth, strengthening industries, and setting a global standard for sustainability. WRG is proud to lead this effort, driving collective action for a water-secure future. #2030WRG #WaterReuse #WaterSecurity #Partnerships4Water Mahady Hassan, Syeda Sitwat, Dr. Emdadul Haque, Michael John Webster
