Don’t miss Episode 34 tomorrow at 8:30 AM CST! ?? Greg Reed is the Executive Director of the National Star Route Mail Contractors Association (NSRMCA), representing surface transportation companies contracting with the U.S. Postal Service. Since May 2021, Greg has led NSRMCA, whose members manage $3.5 billion in Postal Service contracts annually. He focuses on advancing these companies, supporting the USPS, and strengthening the $1.9 trillion postal ecosystem. Previously, Greg was litigation and regulatory counsel for the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), advocating for 150,000 trucking industry members. His work focused on removing burdens to interstate commerce and empowering small-business owner-operators. Before joining the transportation industry, Greg litigated on behalf of entrepreneurs at the Institute for Justice and a major law firm. His work, featured in outlets like the Wall Street Journal, challenged anticompetitive laws stifling the American dream. Greg earned his law degree from American University Washington College of Law (2013) and his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Haverford College (2006). He resides in northern Virginia with his wife, Dina, and their three children. ?? https://lnkd.in/gkuTEiVS #2Dawgs1Pod #LogisticsPodcast #NSRMCA

Step 11: Delayed payments. A claim. A fraudulent broker who has no intention of paying up. One issue could sink your whole operation if you haven’t diversified your business. Our advice: Concentrate no more than 20% of your capacity with any single broker or shipper if you can help it. (Another advantage of Diversification: You’ll have more freight rate data flowing in, leaving you better positioned to negotiate fair pricing.) Step 10: The spot market can be incredibly lucrative. But when the market flips, it’s usually a bloodbath. So, as you grow, aim to boost your percentage of contract versus spot freight—from 10-15% contract on the low side, up to 50% if you can manage it. This larger mix of contract loads will give you the stability you need to plan and grow. Stay tuned for Step 11 of Your Fast Lane to Fleet Growth, brought to you by TAFS, Inc.! Tony D. comes with 30 years of experience in the transportation industry, ranging from owner/operator to leader of people. Growing up with a father as a truck driver and earning an allowance by cleaning and detailing his dad's Kenworth, Tony learned to drive a stick shift on an Eaton Fuller 10-speed. Life changes called for a quick transition to taking over the family's transportation business and running as an O/O. While a driver, Tony earned his bachelor's degree and took over a company's shipping department and fleet, learning leadership lessons the hard way. Fast forward, Tony stands before you now with experience operating multiple vehicle types and running shipping teams/fleets at two of the largest players in the recreational vehicle manufacturing industry. With a focus on cultural and team member improvement, Tony contributed to Lippert's "business as a force for good" by volunteering at various charities and coaching youth sports. Tony is currently growing in the brokerage side of logistics as a Regional Director of Operations. When he's not involved at work, he is the Executive Director of a non-profit, The Northern Indiana Transportation Club and co-founder of a podcast "Hold My Beer: We're Talking Freight". #DawgoftheWeek #certifiedDAWG

Step 9: Cold calling, knocking on doors, meeting with folks face-to-face—the hustle you put in now can pay o big dividends down the road. Because shippers are just as eager to work directly with carriers and reduce their costs as you are to work with them and boost your margins; they just need confidence in your ability to deliver. And by the time you’ve grown to ve or 10 trucks, you’ll have a good story to tell. This is where the money is. When you’re not hauling 100% brokered freight, you’ll boost the savings you need for your next stage of growth more quickly.
