1 Million Cups Lehigh Valley, Nov 27, 2024, 9 am. This week the featured speaker is YOU - the audience! It’s “Open Mic Day" - an opportunity for the audience to become the presenter. The audience is invited to share their business challenge, and seek feedback/advice/connections from the collective wisdom of peers. Take three minutes to present and get instant feedback from the room. Each person will have about ten minutes in total to exchange ideas and interact with the audience. As usual, coffee will get us all going and brimming with ideas. Use this day as a trial run for a full session of your own in the future.

1 Million Cups works with entrepreneurs, empowering them with tools and resources.
关于我们
Based on the notion that entrepreneurs discover solutions and engage with their communities over a million cups of coffee, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation developed 1 Million Cups in 2012—a free program designed to educate, engage and inspire entrepreneurs around the country. Through the power of volunteers, 1 Million Cups has grown to more than 160 communities. As a program of the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups works with entrepreneurs, empowering them with the tools and resources to break down barriers that stand in the way of starting and growing their businesses. Mr. Kauffman believed it was a fundamental right for anyone who had a big idea to be able to bring it to life—and we're here to fulfill that mission.

Such a great opportunity to connect Chris Briggs with students and faculty through Common Intellectal Experience (CIE). Throughout the fall semester this collective project brings together students and faculty across disciplines to initate #sustainable projects bringing community entrepreneurs into post secondary education. Can you guess that today's session focused on design thinking? Laura Cruz was on point!!! Maung K. As many of you may or may not know, I also work closely with 1 Million Cups - Lehigh Valley community. A group of our very active entrepreneurial minds who are regular attendees a have gotten together to work on a project possibly a new business: "1 Million Opportunities" to support the individuals in transition, unemployed, underemployed or looking for a career change. You may also know that I have been in those situations during my lifetime and know what it is like to search for a solution. I have been also fortunate to have had great support over the years and the best advice I have received and given is to build your network, leave no stone unturned, don't be afraid to ask for support and of course ?? ?? ??. I also work closely with Lehigh Valley Professionals having been an Executive Chair and currently an occasional presenter. They have strong leadership in Tom Emmerth & David Newton who provide extraordinary support to this affected community. As many of you know networking is the key and this is just another resource for you to consider. If you want more information reach out to me or CJ Jenkin--the more the merrier and possibly your next opportunity will come from the work this team is doing, keep in mind they are in their infancy, but they are driven for success.

Harnessing Intelligence for Growth, Even in Uncertain Times Doctors make the worst patients, and lawyers often make the worst clients. Why? Because their intelligence gets in the way. The same applies to learners. When we know nothing, and acknowledge that, learning comes easily. But once we gain some knowledge, we often feel like we know it all. This creates resistance to learning further. For example, if you’re good at something and aim to become great, you might hire a mentor. Yet, when they try to teach you, you may instinctively push back, thinking you already know better. In reality, this mindset holds you back. Truly intelligent people recognize that their intelligence can become a barrier. So, they train themselves to put their ego aside, allowing room for growth. They know when to “leash” their intelligence to continue learning. For the Unemployed and Underemployed: Turning Challenges into Opportunities If you’re unemployed or underemployed, you might feel frustrated, thinking you already have the skills and knowledge, yet aren’t getting the opportunities you deserve. It’s easy to feel stuck or resist learning something new because you believe it’s irrelevant or unnecessary. But what if this period of uncertainty is an opportunity in disguise? Instead of viewing unemployment or underemployment as a setback, it could be the perfect time to explore untapped talents, passions, or skills that could be better utilized by creating something of your own. Often, when we’re in traditional employment, we become so focused on working within the system that we overlook our potential to carve our own path. This time could allow you to reflect on what you truly love, what skills come naturally to you, and how those strengths could form the foundation of a business or venture of your own. Many successful entrepreneurs started by facing similar challenges, realizing that the key to their next move was not in finding a job, but in creating one. By keeping an open mind and embracing a learner’s mindset, you can transform this period into an opportunity for self-realization and entrepreneurship. Don’t let your intelligence—or the comfort of what you already know—hold you back from exploring a path that could lead to greater fulfillment and independence. This could be your chance to redefine your career, not by seeking another job, but by building something that’s entirely your own. Restructuring Your Mindset for Growth Take this time to reshape how you view challenges. Instead of seeing unemployment or underemployment as a roadblock, view it as a launching pad for growth. Use this time to not only explore your potential but also restructure your mindset to welcome new opportunities. Reinvest in your skills, your self-awareness, and your passion. The future holds a million possibilities, and by staying open to learning and growth, you can unlock doors you never imagined. #1MillionOpportunities
