I had a great time at 1EdTech Consortium's Digital Credentials Summit last week. In the heart of Phoenix, we heard all about skills taxonomies, open standards and radical partnerships. To organize my thinking, I put together a recap of what I saw and learned. In each of these efforts, portability is paramount, evidence is everything and verification/validation is … varied. Here are my high-level takeaways: ?? After attending this summit, it has become clear that the technology is going to be LER ecosystem ready faster than we are, but gathering varied stakeholders to chart a path forward will continue to be the next best step.? ?? With AI growth, millions of available credentials, and a bevy of approaches to validation, it’s more important than ever to support learners in collecting and documenting rich evidence from their learning experiences, while also connecting them to mentors and industry leaders who can vouch for their applied skills.? ?? K-12 needs to catch up in this space. Very few secondary schools are investing in LER initiatives, yet these initiatives would increase access and value for every student. ?? We get the chance to look at a lot of learner outcome frameworks. Adaptability, agency and curiosity need to show up on a heck of a lot more of them. Check out the full recap: https://lnkd.in/g8Hvtwny Thanks to Brandon Busteed, Ian Davidson and Clayton Lord for some standout keynotes.

Just returned from the *2025 Digital Credentials Summit*, and what an incredible experience! I met some fantastic people, had insightful conversations, and—most importantly—learned a lot (which I LOVE). I dove deep into competency-based learning, credentials, and micro-credentialing, attending sessions like: ? CASE is the Missing Link in Your Credentials Ecosystem ? CASE and CASE Network 2: Connecting Competencies from Classrooms to Careers ? The Last Mile - How HR Managers Think About Credentials and What They Need to Use Them ? Reimagining Professional Learning: Micro-credentials for Dynamic Upskilling ? Meet Learning Where it Lives with Tiny Award ? Trusted Technology Choices for Competency-Based Programs ? Recognition Systems to Strengthen Community Partnerships It was inspiring to see how people are evolving to bridge the gap between education, skills, and workforce needs. The conversations around CASE, digital credentials, and recognition systems were particularly thought-provoking—so many exciting possibilities for the future of learning! If we connected at the event, let’s keep the conversation going! What were your biggest takeaways? #DCSummit25 #LearningSolutions #LMS #CompetencyBasedLearning #MicroCredentials #1EdTech #ProfessionalDevelopment

Just got back from 1EdTech Consortium #DCSummit and I'm so excited to share what I learned! - Alongside Suzanne Carbonaro, Veronica Godshalk and Shefali Dhar, I had the pleasure of sharing great examples of a learning ecosystem vision and envisioning possibilities using a proposed Learning Data Reference Architecture from 1EdTech Consortium. - Patrick Beh and I led a focus group to explore the intersection of skills within the learning moment and got some amazing insight from the participants. More Key Takeaways: Future of Learning and Work: Brandon Busteed from BrandEd emphasized that the "future won’t distinguish between places of learning and places of work."? This aligns with the idea that learning and working are becoming more interconnected, paving the way for innovative approaches to skill development and career growth. LER Accelerator: Another major highlight from the conference was diving into the?LER adoption principles. These principles are designed to drive adoption and capacity building in the credentialing ecosystem. These principles are crucial for creating a robust and effective credentialing ecosystem that benefits everyone involved. It was inspiring to see so many organizations committed to these principles and working together to make them a reality. Skills Visibility Ecosystem: So impressed with the demo from Education Design Lab Unicon, Inc. SmartResume & Edalex successfully creating an end-to-end validation ecosystem starting with competencies in D2L, assessments in MuzzyLane, and credentials in?Credly by Pearson Questions to Ponder:? 1. What are we doing to ensure the ecosystem certifies?? 2. How can organizations get started with capacity building?? 3. Who will drive the demand for these credentials?? 4. How can adoption principles be applied based on an organization's journey? Reflecting on the incredible progress we've made and the many inspiring people I got to catch up with and learn from, it's clear that we're on the right path. Kudos to 1EdTech Consortium for fostering an environment for this community to grow! #EdTech #DigitalCredentials #SkillsEcosystem #FutureOfWork #Brightspace #LearningInnovation Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN) The University of Georgia GeorgiaTech GIT
