Why I’m Joining 1848 Ventures Two years ago, when I was considering my departure from Meta, the first call I made was to Kal Amin. Kal and I crossed paths at Google 20 years earlier, and had always wanted to work together, but he was in the midst of his exit from Sounder. My objective then was to apply learnings from Meta and Google's GTM operations to early-stage startups that needed to scale. I built Elsinore Ventures to do just that, and a key part of my thesis was that developing partnerships with VCs, Advisory Groups, and Venture Studios would enable that objective by providing a platform for centralized resources to their portfolios. Kal and I reconnected last summer, when he took on the Managing Partner role at 1848 Ventures. I’ve since been supporting the GTM strategy for 1848's early-stage ventures including Vandra, Propel People, and TakeUp; and that thesis has been validated by the opportunity they have, and their approach to it: 1. ?? SERVING SMALL BUSINESS: There are over 35 Million Small Businesses in the United States. Many are undergoing a seismic shift transferring ownership to a new generation of owners; a new leadership class that is Gen X, Gen Z, and younger. They are digital natives, AI-curious, and social media first. But the businesses they will inherit rely on outdated systems, and face challenges in adopting modern technology. The opportunity to build the SaaS products to enable this transition is massive, and urgent. 2. ?? NAVIGATING THE AI REVOLUTION: Meanwhile, the AI-revolution is well underway. And while this next cycle is certain to drive labor market efficiencies, enabling many to do more with less, there's a risk that large platforms will monopolize AI-driven insights and tools, leaving smaller businesses unable to compete. I’ve had a front-row seat to the digital and social media revolutions, and seen first-hand how power and profit accumulate to large platforms, leaving SMBs at a competitive disadvantage. 3. ??TALENT, TALENT, TALENT: In working with Kal’s team, it has become clear to me that they are building a small, but deeply talented group of thinkers, builders, and doers. More than that, they have articulated a deeply important mission, a clear vision for achieving it, and the energy and passion to deliver results. Each and every one of them is a solid person with a proven track record of success. 1848 is an AI-first Venture Studio building the B2B SaaS tools that will enable every small business in the country to take part in the AI revolution. These tools will enable them to navigate through this generational ownership transfer, and to grow profitable, sustainable businesses that can compete on a level playing field. I am joining the 1848 team as their GTM Operating Partner to build a set of shared services that these ventures will leverage for rapid, product-led growth, operational scalability, and in ways that are specifically tailored to the SMB community. I’m excited to get building.

That’s a wrap on the ABC convention! What an amazing week full of great conversations and talking about how Propel People can help construction companies of any size optimize their hiring process. A couple things stood out to us through the week: ? This industry is craving software and products truly designed for them. ? Not only is hiring hard in construction, but the time it’s taking people is draining and a huge opportunity. ?
