Unlike promoting new releases, marketing catalog is all about uncovering the timeless elements of songs and reintroducing them in ways that resonate with modern audiences. Jane and Lindsay explained how social platforms like TikTok have shifted the game, allowing songs from the past to experience a resurgence by connecting with new listeners in unexpected ways. They highlighted how catalog marketing involves tapping into nostalgia while also creating fresh, relevant connections that keep the music feeling current. For example, the recent viral resurgence of "Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs highlights how strategic marketing can revive the song's original spirit, introducing it to an entirely new generation. This approach not only extends the song’s legacy but also highlights how catalog marketing is as much about storytelling as it is about strategy.
