Excited to share a featured article about 150 Dunbar in the Tampa Bay Business Journal by Anjelica Rubin. Some extracts here: With the Federal Trade Commission’s ban on fake reviews and testimonials taking effect Oct. 21, Dunbar, an app created by local entrepreneur Jose Bello, aims to help small businesses navigate the challenge by offering a fully compliant service.?( ... ) “Fake reviews not only waste people’s time and money but also pollute the marketplace and divert business away from honest competitors,” Federal Trade Commission commision Chair Lina Khan said about the rule in August. ( ... ) Enter Dunbar, which Bello said helps businesses manage customer feedback, resolve complaints and organically boost positive reviews — the idea for which was born out of his previous startup experience. ( ... ) “The story of this app starts with this other app that didn’t fly,” Bello said. “We had a $2 billion company in New York competing with us, and we couldn’t fight with them.” That previous startup also led Bello to self-fund this venture, sighting a loss of control as his main reason to go forward for “as long as [he] can” without additional support. ( ... ) Bello took a step back, reflecting on the concept of human relationships and the Dunbar number — the theory that humans can maintain up to 150 meaningful connections. ( ... ) According to Bello, Dunbar has already found success in markets outside the U.S., such as Nigeria, Chile and Colombia. His goal is to focus on Tampa Bay, targeting the area’s family-owned businesses. ( ... ) Bello stressed Tampa Bay’s importance as a hub for innovation and his pride as a Latino entrepreneur originally from the Dominican Republic who relocated to Tampa Bay 10 years ago. “If you are over 50, you can still launch a company,” Bello said. “Why not? We are part of an exciting ecosystem that allows stories like mine to happen.” Tampa Bay Business Journal WFLA-TV News Channel 8 / WTTA-TV The CW Tampa Bay Tampa Bay Wave 1 Million Cups NYC Tampa Bay Chamber South Tampa Chamber The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Brandon Chamber of Commerce 1 Million Cups Fairfax 1 Million Cups Fairfax St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce The Greenhouse 26 West CenterMorris County Hispanic-American Chamber of Commerce (MCHACC) Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay https://lnkd.in/g_F92rtn
