"We're on the cusp of a major breakthrough on truly moving to data-centric warfare," Gen. James Rainey, commanding general, Army Futures Command said. ? Rainey presided over the Network Cross-Functional Team (CFT) Transfer of Authority ceremony from outgoing director Maj. Gen. Jeth Rey to incoming Brig. Gen. Patrick Ellis, on Tuesday at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. ? "This is an exchange of leadership, but we're really here celebrating the incredible work that the men and women on this Cross-Functional Team have done since they've been stood up. I'm excited not just for the accomplishments of you all so far, but the real potential over the next couple of years. We're going to be able to confront the enemies of our country with something that is so agile, adaptive, that it will deter a war." ? Rainey praised Rey for "an incredible three-year run" at the Network CFT, describing him as an inspirational leader and "legend" in Army communications with 40 years of service as an enlisted Soldier, warrant officer, and officer. ? Rey thanked the CFT workforce and APG partner organizations for working together to accelerate the delivery of modernized network and data-centric capabilities. "This team was amazing, and I was proud to be a part of it," Rey said. ? Ellis, who most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, G-3 at U.S. Army Europe and Africa in Wiesbaden, Germany, brings a unique perspective to lead the Network CFT as an infantry officer and "phenomenally respected warfighter" who is also "super passionate about the network," Rainey said. ? "This is an incredible opportunity," Ellis said, noting that is peers in command assignments "deserve the best command and control tools that we can provide them, and I'm excited to work hard in providing that to them."
