On Tuesday, Prof. Franz Mayer, Chair in Public Law, European Law, Comparative Law, and Law and Politics at the University of Bielefeld and Scholar in Residence at Columbia University, discussed electoral processes in Western democracies, emphasizing the unique features of the American system, particularly the electoral college and the lack of comprehensive federal regulations from a European perspective. Additionally, he addressed concerns about declining trust in democratic institutions. With the U.S. presidential election approaching and Germany's election year on the horizon, his insights provided much needed guidance, perspective, and context to the electoral processes. Thank you, Prof. Mayer, for sharing your expertise, and to the American Council on Germany for their collaboration. PC: Sarah Blesener

Thank you to fashion and sustainability experts Angel Chang, Theresa and Corinna Williams, Ann Cantrell, and Evie Evangelou for educating us about the economical, environmental, political, and social importance of sustainable fashion production, and for sharing their expertise and tips for more sustainable clothing care options with us last week during our salon-style evening on Sustainability and Fashion! This event, in collaboration with Claudia Mahler, sensitized us to the many ways in which fashion production and aftercare contributes to the growing climate crisis but, most importantly, provided us with new ways to combat this crisis on an individual level. With something as simple as not using dryer sheets or making conscious purchasing decisions for our new wardrobe, we can contribute to solving the problem! PC: Roshni Khatri
