The mission of the 100 Black Men of Omaha (100) is “To improve the quality of life in Omaha by helping our youth to be Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Lead.” We seek to achieve our mission through mentoring and education programs. The 100 is committed to the intellectual development of our youth and the empowerment of the African-American community based on the following precepts: respect for family, spirituality, justice and integrity. Mentors, volunteers and staff have leveraged resources to develop a system based on Mentoring through Education, Health & Wellness, and Economic Empowerment programs. We believe that if we focus our efforts on these core areas, we ultimately will create a foundation of success for our youth and community. The 100 was established in 1995 when a group of concerned men realized that the survival of the Omaha community rested on their willingness to join together and be a vehicle for positive change. Today the 100 is one of over 100 chapters internationally that make up the 100 Black Men of America, an alliance of African-American men from a myriad of professions including community leaders, business executives, entrepreneurs, elected officials and educators.

We hosted 88 students for our Jet Cohort Summit at Metropolitan Community College. During this event, we engaged with middle and high school students to have meaningful conversations about goal setting, creating positive plans for their future, and embracing their potential as tomorrow's leaders. This summit was all about empowering our youth to envision and pursue paths that align with their purpose.

Mentor Spotlight—Davon Taylor Q: Can you tell us about your role and responsibilities at your job? A: I served as the morning reporter for KETV Newswatch 7 - Omaha's News Leader. Q: When did you become a member/mentor of the 100? A: I became a Mentor for the 100 Black Men in May 9th, 2024. Q: What inspired you to join the organization of the 100 Black Men of Omaha and what impact have you witnessed it making in the community? A: I remember having multiple people in my life to help navigate and teach me things about the word and myself. It was actually my mentor who helped me explore that I wanted to be a journalist. Q: How long have you been a mentor, and why are you passionate about mentorship? A: Mentoring is not only a one way street- you get out of it what you put into it. I am passionate about mentoring because it allows you to pour into others while being poured into yourself. I like to think as mentoring as a chain link.
