It's #LandDay at COP16! Each year, 12 million hectares of productive land are lost to desertification. Tackling this large-scale challenge requires collaborative, locally led solutions that can endure for generations. Fortunately, there is hope. Around the world, communities are coming together to combat #desertification and #revitalize landscapes. ?? In Niger, replanting acacia trees is regenerating ecosystems while bolstering local economies through the Gum Arabic trade. Meanwhile, South African farmers, in partnership with Living Lands are balancing livestock needs with wetland restoration, improving both soil fertility and water security. ?? In Kenya, with support from Rainforest Alliance, tea and coffee farmers are adopting #regenerativeagriculture techniques—agroforestry, soil conservation, and water management—boosting productivity while restoring vital ecosystems. ?? In Western Australia, led by groups like Gondwana Link, traditional Indigenous practices like cool burning are being combined with modern techniques to restore native vegetation, #conserve water, and rehabilitate degraded #soils. Each of these stories shares a common message: collaborative action across sectors can be a powerful catalyst for change. By uniting diverse stakeholders and combining local knowledge with science and policy, these regions are transforming barren lands into resilient, thriving landscapes. Dive into the stories of these incredible efforts in the debut of our documentary short, Hope Springs: Stories of Resilience in Drylands. ?? An enormous thank you to all of our contributing and supporting partners, producers, and storytellers, including?Commonland,?Rainforest Alliance?#LivingLandsSA,?AlVelAl,?La Junquera Farm,?Afrikalive.TV, and UNDP. #GenerationRestoration #LandscapeResilience #UNCCDCOP16 #LandDay

The Amazonas Tapajós Model Forest leaders are proof that one meaningful moment can spark a ripple of action! Learn more about how they are working to harness #collaborative action to protect #forest ecosystems, strengthen local livelihoods, and boost the economy. #ForestLeadersforILM #ILM #ForestManagement #Conservation #LocalLivelihoods
In the heart of the Brazilian state of Pará, the Amazonas Tapajós Model Forest is setting the standard for #collaborative, #inclusive landscape management. After years of ongoing conflict caused by water scarcity, unsustainable #farming, and #deforestation, local government, business, and community leaders are working together to reimagine a future for their landscape. With support from the Forest Leaders for Integrated Landscape Management seed funding program, local leaders successfully organized and led an inaugural meeting outlining the building blocks of integrated #landscape management. This meeting allowed key community groups and organizations within the municipalities of Santarém, Belterra, and Aveiro to identify #environmental and socio-economic issues that impact the region and explore solutions through the lens of ILM. The result? A cascade of inspiring action spurred by a palpable collaborative spirit. Together, Model Forest leaders have: ??? ?? ?? Organized the 7th Bioeconomy Fair, which showcased local artisans and producers, highlighting women-led entrepreneurship and locally-sourced products. Workshops held as part of the fair fueled momentum for continued events in Santarém and Alter do Ch?o, fostering direct collaboration between the landscape partnership and community leaders. ?????? ?? ?? Established the Academic League for Integrated Fire Management (LAMIF), which, in addition to addressing essential fire and forest management needs, offers educational programs on environmental and social issues, including legal rights for women, children, and the elderly. This is only the beginning! We can't wait to see where their journey takes them next. This program is part of the Forest Leaders for Integrated Landscape Management project led by EcoAgriculture Partners in collaboration with 1000 Landscapes For 1 Billion People and the Red Latinoamericana de Bosques Modelo, with support from the International Model Forest Network and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

?? NEW REPORT RELEASE ?? Across landscapes worldwide, competing interests and priorities of communities, businesses, government, and #conservation groups often result in disjointed and ineffective financing for sustainable development goals. In Peru, there’s hope for a new path. Our latest report,?Finance Strategy for Priority Actions in the Alto Mayo Landscape,?provides an innovative roadmap for financing large-scale #sustainability initiatives in one of Peru’s most biodiverse regions. Co-authored with 1000L partners EcoAgriculture Partners, Conservation International (Conservación Internacional Perú), and Capital Continuum Advisers with support of the Global EbA Fund, this report presents an integrated investment strategy to align public and private #capital with the potential to transform 191,000 hectares of conservation areas, support #climate-resilient #agriculture across 30,000+ hectares, and prioritize #sustainable infrastructure. ILM impact in action! ?? ???? ?? In December, the Chorotega Model Forest in Costa Rica hit an incredible milestone by establishing the Chorotega Network of Biological Corridors (?????? ?????????????????? ???? ???????????????????? ????????????????????). This network, composed of nine biological corridors, provides biological and structural connectivity to the region's protected wildlife areas and is the central hub for the model forest's management, #conservation, and sustainable production actions. The network's objective is to make the coordination of integrated landscape management more efficient by creating joint strategies and alliances. We're honored to be part of their ILM journey through the Forest Leaders for Integrated Landscape Management project, along with the Red Latinoamericana de Bosques Modelo. This project, supported by International Model Forest Network and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is working to strengthen capacity for ILM leadership across Latin and South America. If you are interested in learning about "challenge mapping" and how it can be applied in the context of food systems change, this workshop happening tomorrow with the Si Food Hub could be for you: Full info and RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/eMpFMSzk Our current food system is broken—depleting soil, harming biodiversity, and creating inequities in access and livelihoods. But how did we get here? What are the deep-rooted challenges preventing a shift toward a regenerative food system? This first co-creation workshop in our three-part series will explore these questions using a Challenge Mapping Canvas to identify the key actors, factors, and interconnections shaping our food system today. In this workshop, we'll analyze the current food system to identify a key challenge, setting the stage for active exploration in our upcoming sessions. featuring Sayyeda Asra Sara Featherston Jill Bouscarat María Fernanda Vazquez Nicolini
