Deeply honored to have spoken at the @glblctzn Festival today — thank you to the Global Citizen team for inviting me to speak on stage for this epic day of music and IMPACT, joining together on a mission to defeat poverty. With 350 million people on the verge of starvation, this mission is more crucial than ever. Growing up in a home where we didn’t know where the next meal would come from, my life changed when a stranger delivered an anonymous meal. It provided not just food, but hope and a belief that strangers care. I’ve been feeding people since I was 17, and I’m proud to share the latest updates on our 100 BILLION MEALS Challenge. Thank you to Malawi’s Minister of Agriculture, Minster Samuel Dalitso Kawale, who joined me on stage and shared the impact of this program in Malawi. It was incredible to be part of this event hosted by my friend, @thehughjackman, and to enjoy amazing performances by @bensonboone, @postmalone, and @jellyroll615. Seeing so many young people in the audience already doing their part and answering the call to defeat poverty is truly inspiring. Together, we can leave this planet better for generations to come. ?? Traditionally, our solutions to hunger and food insecurity have been reactionary – sending food to conflict-ridden areas, providing meals to people who are starving, and being forced to wait until people are on the brink of starvation before being able to prioritize their nutrition. Bringing together high-impact individuals, corporations, world leaders, faith-based initiatives, non-profit organizations, philanthropic foundations, high-net-worth individuals, and the collective general public to create sustainable proactive change is the way to stop the cycle. Our partners will be asked to contribute a billion meals each over the next ten years. We are asking a community of others who can help to bridge the gap, to create long term sustainable solutions to address world hunger needs. This can be a billion meals in a year, or a billion meals during the course of ten years, the equivalent of a cash donation of $300 million*, or in-kind donations of a billion meals. In addition to those who can commit to 1 billion meals, there is also a need for sponsorship of initiatives, investment in new innovation and technologies, brand partnerships, general funding, awareness creation, public engagement, and celebrity influencers to help get the word out. Everyone has an essential part to play.

In some of our nation's rural communities—including the places that grow America's crops—regular access to fresh and nutritious food may not be a guarantee. Grocery stores can be few and far between, and some families might need to travel dozens of miles, or even hours, to access the food we all need to thrive. Federal nutrition programs like The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) help close meal gaps for rural communities—and we have a chance to bolster these programs in the next farm bill.
