Losing leaders can be as impactful as meeting them, and we are feeling the loss of Susan Wojcicki today. While we never met her in person, we spent time in boardrooms of both companies she led - Google and YouTube - and we felt her influence with every visit. One of our favorite pieces of advice from her? “Rarely are opportunities presented to you in the perfect way, in a nice little box with a yellow bow on top. Opportunities, the good ones, they're messy and confusing and hard to recognize. They're risky.” This leader took risks (Google was launched in her garage!) and turned opportunities into iconic companies. Thank you for building companies that continue to see and save seats for girls. Photo: Getty Images #leadership #susanwojcicki #mentorshipmatters

With graduation season fully upon us and commencement counsel coming at us fast, it is a joy to look back to The Epic Mentor Guide - être's second book where global girls posed career questions to 180 rockstar leaders - and revisit advice conveyed to girls by women who know. Women who have been in the trenches and atop Olympic podiums. Women who have founded companies, walked catwalks and orbited to space. Women who remember what it feels like to stand in the next gen's shoes, and want to whisper insider advice that helps them run towards bright futures. Women like these. This week starts a series of a dozen mentor moments taken straight from the book; the first six are below and the rest will follow next Monday. All 180 women in The Epic Mentor Guide shared wise words worthy of a commencement address - here are just a few of our favorites... We know. We totally know. We've been lax about posting here on LinkedIn. With our founder Illana Raia posting weekly with The Epic Mentor Newsletter, brand new research, plus our active Insta, TED-Ed series and Gen-ê features, we've been a little MIA over here. BUT, here's a link to our newsletter... https://lnkd.in/eYcdczZE AND a glimpse of our insta... https://lnkd.in/efhJah88 WITH a promise that we'll get our act together on this LinkedIn page and post much more regularly. It's summer & the future is bright. See you here more often - starting now. xo, être #etregirls

Meet être Girls! We recently featured them on our newsletter and want to show them some leave here on social, too. Their mission: offer free resources and the coolest female role models right when you need them. From être Girls: “We know that mentors matter as early as middle school - because that’s precisely when girls’ confidence can falter... We’ve done the math and seen the stats: * That between ages 13 and 18 girls’ confidence drops by 20% * That by age 14 girls drop their sport at 2X the rate of boys * That the sharpest fall-off of girls in computer science remains between 13 and 17 But what if they didn’t? What if, at exactly the time when some girls are quitting what they love, they met the right female role model?” Amazing work! Give them a follow or learn more here: https://www.etregirls.com/

It’s here. With the definitive clang of a morning locker slamming shut, être’s brand new survey "The Current State of Girls’ Confidence: How Mentors are Slamming the Confidence Gap Shut Like Lockers" was released at 8 am ET today and we couldn’t be more thrilled. The best way to solve a problem is to do the math, and that’s just what we did.? Teaming up once more with?YPulse, the leading authority on Gen-Z and Millennials, être commissioned a new national survey of 1000+ girls to measure the current state of girls’ confidence and the impact of mentorship, and some of the numbers were staggering. A small sampling: Between 13 and 18 girls’ confidence drops by 20% Between 13 and 18 the percentage of girls who say they feel smart drops by 50% Between 13 and 18 the percentage of girls who say they feel optimistic drops by 52% Between 13 and 18 the percentage of girls who say they feel stressed rises by 241% Between 13 and 18 the percentage of girls who say they feel anxious rises by 88% But, there was some very good news: 91% of girls believe that higher confidence is directly related to mentorship We dove into #sports, #STEM and #finance (see link below for topline results, the full survey & more) and today announced a brand new partnership with The Female Quotient that's a dream come true. Keep reading and sharing - mentors matter and we did the math. https://lnkd.in/ggX9qbcr #mentorshipmatters?#newresearch?#survey?#confidence?#edchat #empoweredwomen?#empoweringgirls?#nextgeneration?#etregirls
