The 10 Must-Read Articles for Recruiters This Week

Top stories of the week

“There Is No Labor Shortage.”

That’s according to a new ERE article that may come as a surprise to recruiters who are struggling to find qualified professionals for their slew of urgent but unfilled openings. But the first two articles in our weekly roundup of must-reads for talent professionals underscore a similar point: Workers are out there, but they’re not going to settle for underpaying jobs.

“Would-be workers are simply doing a rational cost-benefit analysis,” ERE says, “and the result says to work someplace else. . . . People are asking themselves: Given how much it will cost to have this job (gas, childcare, etc.), will it pay enough to survive?”

An article from CNBC bolsters this argument: “Low pay remains the top factor driving workplace stress, according to the American Psychological Association’s latest work and well-being survey.”

So, if your job posts aren’t driving applications or you have candidates regularly spurning your job offers, talk to your comp team to see if your salaries and benefits are really competitive.
